May 17, 201610 yr Why the heck are they still previewing Alpha version? Lets move on to Beta. Its couple weeks away from release. Just 7 days, it's out next Tuesday. At this point, we shouldn't even be seeing Beta versions, but final code as they go into production and a final promotional blitz. X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor
May 18, 201610 yr Got the preload installed. All I hope is that things can only get better...right? DTG knows if they get it right, their FS could be the perfect "Field of Dreams" where simmers in droves will gladly give their hard earned cash to experience it. May 18, 201610 yr "Can we install it right away ?" It's unclear whether it will install showing you a file structure (just not playable until it unlocks) or if it's just a downloaded block of files that will install next Tuesday. Going to free up some space and download today, just to see.
May 18, 201610 yr It's just a bunch of obscure files. Will unfold later, I guess. May 18, 201610 yr Ok, will download to get prepared :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
May 18, 201610 yr Sadly you can't poke around the files. They are cached awaiting unpacking after release. Its good to have it ready downloaded in advance though, even if the latest beta previews were slightly disappointing. Yes its nice to see the cockpit shadows, but those clouds are still looking awful and the haze seems far worse than the early screenshots, where its looked very good. The distant terrain just seems to get bleached out with a hard line on the horizon, plus the clouds don't seem to receive as much, if any drop in visibility from the haze layer :(
May 19, 201610 yr DTG Flight School Preview Episode #5 "In this final episode Novawing24 takes some scenic flights and discusses his thoughts around Flight School, its defined purpose and the community as a whole."
May 19, 201610 yr Not sure if the Novawing 24 video #5 is from the Alpha or the Beta. There are some slight cockpit shadows visible at one point but Martin said there were shadows in the early versions they just weren't very visible in the videos. Some parts of the cockpit looked overly bright in some places so I'm just not sure which version this is. I'm guessing the beta but I'm not sure. Anyone think there will have been more work done since the beta? eg... Softening of the cockpit shadows? Cockpit shadows connecting to front forks (visible in the cub video)? Better blending between the land, sky and clouds?
May 19, 201610 yr I hope so. But it´s commom to release "bugged" softwares, so, maybe, they won´t fix everything to the release. Even if it happens, they can easily update Flight School after release. Let´s hope for the better. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel
May 19, 201610 yr Anyone think there will have been more work done since the beta? eg... Softening of the cockpit shadows? Cockpit shadows connecting to front forks (visible in the cub video)? Better blending between the land, sky and clouds? Logic would suggest that little to no work has been done since the Beta, since the final code has already been pre-loaded on Steam, and at the same time they're still showing that one pre-rendered CGI movie and the 5 screenshots from the early Alpha on the Steam order page. If there was something new and shiny to show, I would think it would be up on that Steam page to boost sales. Maybe more work will be done on Flight School post-release, but I imagine most flight sim enthusiasts would prefer that DTG shift all their attention to making something new and shiny with the upcoming full flight simulator. May 19, 201610 yr Paraffin - Logic would suggest that little to no work has been done since the Beta, since the final code has already been pre-loaded on Steam Automatic updates. I was thinking the version people have dowloaded is the beta (or something close), come Tuesday it'll be update 0.01. This may not happen of course. Paraffin - they're still showing that one pre-rendered CGI movie and the 5 screenshots from the early Alpha on the Steam order page Which is admittedly weird, as all the images they've shown over the past month or so have improved dramatically. Maybe they're just not wanting to show better shots until they have the final. Paraffin - I imagine most flight sim enthusiasts would prefer that DTG shift all their attention to making something new and shiny with the upcoming full flight simulator. Agreed. Although someone did ask in another thread (as both sims share the same base engine) if the main sim is updated and that update is appropriate for flight school, will they update it?
May 19, 201610 yr Although someone did ask in another thread (as both sims share the same base engine) if the main sim is updated and that update is appropriate for flight school, will they update it? I'm sure DTG will be do some bugfixing or minor improvements to Flight School (and they still have a plane to add to it as well), but apart from that I hope the full sim will stray away further from the codebase so that updates wouldn't really be feasible. Which is admittedly weird, as all the images they've shown over the past month or so have improved dramatically. Maybe they're just not wanting to show better shots until they have the final. Yeah, one thing they don't seem to be very good at is getting the screenshots right. Jordan Kings video looked way better than everything DTG have produced and they should have noticed that there was way too much blue color in the early screenshots way sooner. Well, at least we know they're not overselling their product...
