May 16, 201610 yr scotchegg - If I can get back to an environment which allows me to fill the world with ORBX quality scenery, rendered smoothly with all the other bells and whistles like ASN, global traffic AI, all seasons, REX etc., I'll throw more money at the full sim than I have on any sim so far. Agreed.

The term "get back" almost implies that you would be playing catch up to return to the point where you were in FSX or P3D. I assume you mean rather more than that? As in "up to the point where I am now, but with the added advantages of a 64bit sim, improved graphics, no stutters, and a generally more believable and realistic world"? May 16, 201610 yr I for one am looking forward to a sim (ANY) which I don't need to buy a new computer tomarrow, and thousands of addons and countless hours of tweaking to only be totally frustrated with. What I'm seeing just from DTG's Flight School could very well be a testament of a Plug & Play flight sim down the road. Fingers Crossed! What I'm seeing just from DTG's Flight School could very well be a testament of a Plug & Play flight sim down the road. P3D pretty much gives me that right now. It's stable, generally performs very well and there are new releases for it almost daily now. A new 64 bit sim will be great but i guess with everyone having to adapt to 64 bit etc, it will be at least another two/three years down the road before we are in that position with a new sim. I only wish any new sim looked like Aerofly 2. Has anyone seen the preview video? That blew my socks off.
May 16, 201610 yr The visuals as they stand are certainly not the great leap I'm hoping for for the full sim. They're certainly good enough to drop $15 or so on to support further development, but nothing to write home about. What I am really pleased with so far is DTG's attitude, and the positive signs that are there in Flight School at the moment. They're showing us how things are progressing in a very transparent way. They don't mind vloggers showing all the warts of alpha builds. They're being the most interactive I've seen any developer of their size. They're making changes in their builds based on community feedback. They're making sensible partnerships and committing to more, including giving dev tools to the community. If I can get back to an environment which allows me to fill the world with ORBX quality scenery, rendered smoothly with all the other bells and whistles like ASN, global traffic AI, all seasons, REX etc., I'll throw more money at the full sim than I have on any sim so far. Perfectly said. P3D pretty much gives me that right now. It's stable, generally performs very well and there are new releases for it almost daily now. I only wish any new sim looked like Aerofly 2. Has anyone seen the preview video? That blew my socks off. I for one, was a little less than impressed with the video, the wings are very low detail, the world looks dead in some area with little to no autogen. The cockpits look of limited functionality and if it is anything like the old Aerofly, it likely wont have cockpits that you can interact with. I will buy it, for sure, but I dont have hopes beyond it being a fun, visually appealing, probably VR friendly, game. Not a simulator by any standard. I dont see this as any real alternative to P3D/FSX/DTG/X-Plane/ etc... Let me guess.... you want 64bit. Josh Daniels-Johannson
May 16, 201610 yr Just watched a replay of Jordan Kings twitch stream, and it was very interesting. Visuals aside since weve been critiquing that so much, the main goal of this one is to teach newbies and he ran through the lessons. Will be great for newcomers but they definitly need to tweak the missions to be less sensitive. He was asked to maintain a certain speed and he was within 2-3 kts of target yet the instructor was constantly nagging about it. Newbies would just frustrated and shut it down. Great to have back to basics for beginners too. VOR training was fundamental to learn back in the 80s sims as there was no GPS and FMC pointing to waypoints. Seems like the flight dynamics is decent as well as he tested it with spins and stalls. One interesting note.... The VAS was hitting 9gb lol. Seems quite excessive and probably needs to be optimized but its nice not to have the limitation anymore other than physical ram. Start buying RAM folks. May 16, 201610 yr Did they say it is aimed at newbies and accessible? Seen all reviews, videos and screenshots i could get. Looks like it is not so easy to newcomers. There is still a bunch of keys to assign before you can start. Common to FSX users but not the normal gamer. In addition the lessons have little margin for errors, which could be frustrating. Graphics still poor in beta, except for the planes. The lessons are not many and not much into detail. I believe they are too basic. I hope i'm wrong but looks like they are doing the same mistake MS did with Flight. Dumbed down FlightSim's just don't work. Neither for newbies nor for Flighsimmers. MSFlight had at least better graphics and some mor content and fun features.
May 16, 201610 yr Dumbed down FlightSim's just don't work. Neither for newbies nor for Flighsimmers. You know, we keep saying that in places like this despite any the evidence to the contrary. For instance: Where is the one place where civilian simulation has multiple new titles per year, that tend to do well? Answer: The tablet market. Question: What do those Android and Ipad sims tend to have in common? Answer: simplicity and "dumbed down" content. Question: Which PC simulation companies drew considerable amounts of cash to keep them afloat from that "Dumbed down Android/iPad market? Answer: Laminar Research and Ipacs via Aerofly. Question: who made enough money from that market to be on their second (and improved) iteration of their product? Aerofly Fs 2 Yet who nonetheless keeps saying that there is no market for simpler civilian simulators? Answer: People in/on enthusiast sites. It starts out very nice and easy with a calm and friendly instructor getting your LAPL, then when he went to get his PPL, the sim put put Jordan into some tricky VOR transitions with circle to land instructions and lessons where the instructor cut his engine and made him pitch for speed down to the runway. I would venture to say that even experienced users will find some challenge. I also wouldnt expect a newcomer to have a full Saitek Yoke setup and rudder pedals. Likely they will just have a joystick and anyone who has ever played a video game understand the concept of assigning keys. Let me guess.... you want 64bit. Josh Daniels-Johannson
May 16, 201610 yr @HiFlyer except that I play flightsim on my PC all the time while the two people I know with X-Plane on their tablets don't play it at all. sales don't mean interest or devotion. May 16, 201610 yr sales don't mean interest or devotion. We're the kind of people who buy and buy more. Don't know about anyone else but I don't usually buy things I have no interest in...... Well, except FSX-SE. I purchased that because..... Heck, $4 And Flight school because..... Heck, $15 (and I'm curious) As for playing on tablets; I play wherever the fun is. I note that for myself, X-plane's inscrutable interface became just that much more usable when some features of the tablet interface were ported over. And I like what I've seen of Flight Schools UI.
