Migration Tool Problem

Featured Replies

Hi lads,

I recently had to do a system restore and ever since, I have not been able to revert back to FSX. I have disabled redirection within the tool itself and when I go to open FSX it says that the migration tool has disabled FSX and to disable redirection in the tool, which I have already done.

Any ideas?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

Just my opinion.., the EMT tool is a virus and is guaranteed to cause problems.

Greg,  The quickest thing to do is Uninstall the Migration Tool and Restart your Computer,  Then insure FSX and Prepar3D start up Ok.   Then if you want to Reinstall the Tool again you can,  But to be honest i wouldn't bother Installing the Tool,  It can cause a few headaches when it goes wrong.

I think what downscc said is important and should not be dismissed so rudely. This is the THIRD post I've read TODAY (three different forums) aboit the EMT causing major problems. If you don't want to follow the advice that is fine but ignore the warning at your peril...

Try this buddy.

1. Start Migration Tool.

2. click Options -> Click to view backups.

3. Find a recent FSX backup and open it.

4. Open subfolder Root.

5. Copy file fsx.exe from Root folder to the main folder of FSX (accessible via Explore shortcut in the main window of Migration Tool).

I concur with Poppet's suggestions. the more you mess with it the more likely you will have further issues. Many have used it with absolutely no ill effects but I have had to do some serous repair to many systems where it caused problems.

I agree and have read about it causing problems with FSDT, Flightbeam, and PMDG products, although not when used for those specific products by as a biproduct of using it for other products.

I have been using it for a long time and never had any problems.

Never had any problems with EMT here too. But there seems to be some people that think this is a tool for EVIL purposes. Go figure...

I had to remove a few posts here because they were inciting/trolling posts.  Dan started his post stating "just my opinion".  That was his opinion and not fact.  Members are allowed to post their opinions but responses to those opinions which are trolling or inciting Dan (and others) to respond negatively back is not appropriate.  I ask everyone to please stop trolling.  You can make comments like FavioSSA and others made about the product but to attack someone for expressing his/her opinion will not be tolerated here.

I don't think it is "evil" per se, though it CAN be used to install FSX products into P3D that are not authorized on the LM platform, (depending on specific developer's licensing policies). Like many other legitimate utilities - from hex editors to Photoshop - the potential for abuse is there if a particular user has a poorly-formed sense of right and wrong, but that does make the tool itself "bad".

My own discomfort with the migration tool is the fact that it intercepts and modifies the core file handling and registry routines of Windows itself, with is potentially dangerous - especially if the computer crashes while the tool is active, which could potentially leave the file system or registry in a corrupted or unstable state. That may be what happened to the OP.

Also, if the Migration Tool process is running in the background, (even if the folder redirection feature is turned off), it can cause issues with some add-ons, such as PMDG products.

I personally have no reason to use it - all of my favorite add-on aircraft, sceneries and utilities now have dedicated P3D installers.
