Fast Sync use is explained in greater detail here [under the Vertical Sync - Update heading]....

"The Fast option is currently only available under the Vertical Sync setting in the Nvidia Control Panel for GTX 1080 and 1070 GPUs, but can also be enabled for the GTX 600 series and above using Nvidia Inspector as covered here."

So, it's available for the GTX 980, but only through NI (not Control Panel). However, based on the tweakguide explanation, is of no value with FSX due to the slow frame rate.

Fast Sync is truly amazing! Even with 40 FPS (with fps set to unlimited).

its the same as vsync at that fps..

unless your monitor is 30hz

Not correct. It's available also with the Control Panel.

I think for me it is working very good.

Before select Fastsync if i test the same setup (30.5 FPS limit in NI and Unlimited in P3D) the sim was not as smooth as it is now with Fastsync on.

bet its the same with normal vsync in either inspector or the nvidia control panel.

it working well, only problem when your opening a Third Part panel on second screen it will go straight down to 15fps and will stick to that
