I would have thought all the big guns in that case would have the same metrics but so far only 2 or 3 have stepped up which makes me wonder ...

It's more likely that with limited in-house resources, they'd rather focus on producing new quality products for 64 bit sims. It's not like they are abandoning all their 32 bit offerings. Think about how many payware developers produce new products for FS9 or MS Flight. Time's up.

It's interesting to see what John Venema had to say about this decision. Check out the "Are FSX days numbered?" thread on the ORBx forums.

I do hope that developers are not trying to push people on to one platform time will tell, it would in my opinion be bad for the user no compotation lack of choice take it or leave it.

I'm a FSX:SE user and have ORBX, BASE, LC, VECTOR ,UK ,WALES, LC EUR , N CAL , S CAL , LOWI ,KSAN, IFLY 747-400 , 747-200-300,JF TRAFFIC , to name only a few,

I will more than likely get ,ORBX C ROCKIES ,S AMERICIA.

So yes there are still simmers in FSX I'm just one of the 836,000 steam FSX owners.

The thing is that, long term, a 32bit platform will be too restricting for both devs and users. It's like 99% of the software that no longer supports good old Windows XP, we can kick and protest, but the technology is begging for the improvement.

ORBX is giving you a big one by not charging for the switch.

That is something I always afraid of where they would point out there are not enough user to justify being in other markets. It should be look upon as an opportunity to expand in new markets rather that going with a safe bet.

But if you are a two-man operation, in the medium run it turns unsustainable to support 4+ flight sims.

+1:

I'm a consumer, so P3D licences are no option for me.

Let`s not forget that most of industry was built on the back of MSFS,  and DTG gave a new lease of life to FSX 860,000 copies of the steam version sold this is not including the boxed version, and it`s still selling today,

FSW we will have to wait and see but at least 300,000+ potential customs and 64bit.

Don't fool yourself P3DV4 is nothing more than dynamic lighting and reducing ooms.

The planes will not get better with P3DV4 it's still FSX coding but most importantly is the features you want in your addon plane are not necessarily impossible to do but they would make a 70$ addon turn in-to a 10,000$ add-on.

So if you're expecting a new improved 737,747.777,A320  forget it.

Airliners on Flight sim have reached max capacity , regional jets are rarely touched by the best developers the only market with capacity is Corporate jets or helicopters.

I have tried to get P3D working twice only to have to reinstall because of problems that started.  I don't have it installed now.

I might get brave again sometime in the future.

If you been in this business this long and not look and see that this market is expanding, continue to run a 2 man operation only to silo yourself into one market, then who fault is that?

People are going to want to see their scenery for their favorite sim. They are not usually tied to the simulator because there favorite airport is being made by XYZ. They will use the sim that gives them the best flight experience. The airports is an enhancement of that experience. Keep in mind that there are many different channels users can choose from now that there are 4 flight sim. You should want to the be one of them.
