Kai Tak Revisited

Featured Replies

On checking, I do have Wayne's file but it appears he wanted it removed because of incorrect heights used by authors (and default) for Kai Tak which gave him some issues. So I think rather than sharing that further, we'll wait and see what comes next, eh?Don't go taking any weekends off, now, Jim .... ;)MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

updates?? anxious waiting here!JohanA LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, AND A LITTLE MORE ACTION PLEASE!HELP:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=238882

UpdateMost everything is doneFinalizing the Maint Buildings and a few things left at the Shipyard. Holger has finished the mesh (LOD 9 and 10) so I tested both his and the one that is on Mark's site. Both have the hill for the checkerboard placement.Tom Gibson created and forwarded me a GMAX checkerboard that is now in place (on the hill looking both ways) with additional GUID's. Still trying to determine the proper scale for the checkerboard. Anyone know what size it should be? Rectagular feet preferred.Added Thomas Kwong's November 2004 vhhh2005b.zip to test capatibility issues and conflicts. There is one file in his download that works very well for the KAI TAK airport land skirting and that is the VHHH_LC.bgl. It also removes a lot of un-necessary autogen on the backside of KAI TAK for a more realistic 1998 look. This file from Thomas will probably be needed to enhance my Ship Yard and new water class that comes up into the ramp areas. The additional default FS9 scenery is going very smoothly but testing takes time when making sure AI Traffic (especially Heavies) make the IGS turn to final at the checkerboard and VHHH does not conflict with any type arrival/departure/missed approach from both airports. Makes for a busy Hong Kong. All new Main Terminals and 8 JetwaysAll new Cargo and multiple Maint. Buildings as per what I see with 2000/2002 exsisting scenery.Parking building New GA buildings/ramp for the NW corner (rightside of 13 threshold) of the airport.Complex AFCAD with all properly placed taxiways and Parking StandsTaxiway SignsAll associated ILS antennas and windsocks Red and white large Pole Lights for all Parking Stands AI traffic curved IGS approachNew Football/Track field on the curved approach. All GPS User Aircraft receiver Approaches/Holding Patterns/Published Missed Approaches/Transistions/etc.New Ship Yard with Cranes/Cargo Ships/Buildings.Many additional Pleasure craft in the Harbor including several cruise ships. New Control Towers (3) counting the one on the roof of the A gatesSupport Ground equipment GUID's placed properly.Fire Stations and equipmentA lot of eye candy set at SPARSE/NORMAL/DENSE settings MRAI FP's for VHHX when the airport closed. These FP's do not conflict with VHHH current FP's.etcetcetc the list goes on and trying to stay at 15-20 FPS with NORMAL settingsMark is right!!!!! There have been no weekends off.

Outstanding! I can't wait for this one, it sounds like it will be great. Thanks for all your hard work!KP

Thank you so much for your hard work. I'm really looking forward to this.D

"Mark is right!!!!! There have been no weekends off." Many thanks for your tremendous efforts !!! I'm really looking forward to breaking a few more 747's on the checkerboard approach.Again, thanks for your great contributions !!!JackD

Sounds really good so far Jim.For me I really appreciate a low-frame rate, but realistic Kai Tak experience! :)

<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>Have you tried entering 'checkerboard' at Airliners.net, Jim. Tons of pictures for you.Eric ... I totally agree about CLK. It would be good to be able to exclude the default CLK entirely when Kai Tak is in use, frankly. As most know, it was built on reclaimed (or claimed) land anyway, so even the land it sits on was not there for most of Kai Tak's working life!I used to sail into the little fishing village there for seafood, now and again. The 'little fishing village' is now of somewhat different proportions! Sad, in a way.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hi everyone, wow, I am looking forward a lot for that Kai Tak scenery...I started a little repaint of an Opensky 747-267B in old livery, in order to celebrate that new scenery :-) with a fitting plane. The livery is based on Thomas Kwongs 747-300. I wanted to ask Thomas whether it's ok for me to use his livery and change it a little, so that it would fit the 747-267B... I tried to reach him via email, but noone is answering, I am not sure the mail address is still up to date. Does anyone know, how I could reach Thomas?Tim keep it rollin'Greetings from David.

Hi,If someone has a map of the old island (and where the village was) I could recreate it using Ground2K4, at least to the "default scenery" detail level. Email me at tgibson at sunstroke dot sdsu dot eduTake care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

David,Yeah, I did change my e-mail address, as the old hotmail one is getting way too clogged up with junk mail. You may use parts of my 747-300 paint for your 747-200, as long as proper credit is given. Thomas

As most know, it was built on reclaimed (or>claimed) land anyway, so even the land it sits on was not>there for most of Kai Tak's working life!I have VHHH excluded by 1. disabling Hong Kong ArialPhoto in the scenery.cfg2. creating a VTP exclude to exclude all layers including 8 (using Sbuilder)3. creating a LWM Water mask to fill in water (using Sbuilder)4. creating an exclude for all remainings of the airport and Tsing Ma bridge (using Sbuilder) If there is interest I could try to uplaod these 3 files here in the forum.Ciao, Peter
