I think that the thing to remember is that for each single person who has a problem that they attribute to Windows 10, there are tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) who are using it without any issues.

Why not download the iso, and install it, so there's an activation record of it on your machine, then roll back to Windows 7 if you don't like it.That way, when Windows 7 support expires, you have a legit record of it on your machine to install.

Where does one download the ISO.  Many months back when MS threatened that the free upgrade was ending I tried to download, it failed many times, I gave up especially since they said they would support win7 until 2020?

Please do offer some proof of that.  I have Win 7, 8.1, and 10 computers here and see no discernible difference in speed.  As for Win10 being more secure... well, perhaps from most threats except Microsoft.

Ios11 is more secure from most threat`s except Apple, and the same can be said of android except from google.

A few years from now there will only be window 10 there`s no 11 in the pipeline.

No issues with win10 and better to be up to date with security especially with all the rampant loopholes trying to be spoofed and hacked. If there  is issues with win10 then its usually to do with older hardware and the manufacturer not putting out win10 drivers. Better to get it free by the deadline than to pay MS for a whole new OS come 2020. 2 years is not that far off. 

Perhaps look at this security chart and make a decision. 

 

Anyone know if the ability to install/activate Win10 using Win7 retail keys is still available (i.e. free upgrade)? I have two Win 7 Pro retail discs and keys, unused, sitting on my shelf.

It seems to me that every time I read about some major hack or virus, that MS had already issued a patch against it. But people, and in some cases even IT had not installed the patch. Sure, be suspicious of an update, but there can be a cost.

Agreed, but at least with my Win7 install I can do a bit of research about an update before accepting it.  Not so easy to do one's due diligence with Win10.  With regard to security, I long ago gave up relying on MS to protect me from external threats... that's up to me.

Most I.T. departments did the same leave well alone don't update if its not broke don't fix it.

They paid a heavy price for that, cost company's million`s when a patch update would have stopped it.

But probably not nearly as costly (money and time) as the WannaCry attack earlier this year which you were protected against as long as you had all of the security updates!

It seems you could be assuming that I don't update my systems (Win7, 8.1 and 10)?  I do... I just don't allow MS to do it for me when they want to do the updates.  My systems, my responsibility.
