So let's say I use SkyForce with the AS4 WX engine (because I need working WX radar on the NGX and FSLabs A320.) Will the thunderstorms still build up to 70,000 feet since we can still use the SkyForce cloud models? And I am guessing that since the radar is still controlled by AS4 that the cloud models producing precipitation won't match up exactly with radar returns. Is that the case?

Interested in the same thing, that’s the biggest, in my opinion, selling point of SkyForce.

Hi Reed, sure

In relation to Sky Force you said 'The majority of the features will work just fine.' when used in conjunction with other weather add-ons.  Which are the features which will not work?

The weather engine.  That is it.

And given that Reed says its been tested with other wx engines, this would include AS16. So somehow someway the dynamic process continues via compatibility means.

I don't think so. For the dynamic changes to occur the addon that provides the textures needs to 'plug in' to the ASCA engine. I know ENVTEX does this. But I seriously doubt Skyforce will do this too. After all, REX and HiFi are competitors. Besides, the interface screenshots of Skyforce clearly show that it offers the well known abundance of trillion sky textures and zillion cloud sets which all have to be loaded into the sim and hence are all fixed. The only 'dynamic' Skyforce offers when it comes to textures is the optional good old 10-day cycle for sky colors.

BTW Apparently there still are people who get excited when they get 20 GB's of sky textures and dozens of cloud sets... I am not. In fact, I hate it. Too many options. Options are nice but REX always overdoes it imho. The idea alone of having to scroll through all those options... no, thank you. I am sure I am not alone in this. I hope there is an option to NOT having to download all those files to my SSD.

BTW 2 After looking at almost all the screenshot I dare to conclude Skyforce only offers current weather which means that if I'd get it, I will only get it to use it with Active Sky. Good to read that this combination will still be able to use all the novelties of Skyforce when it comes to the cloud models.

How do you know that J, you state it like a fact.

How do you know that it will not work, how do you know this is not new tech, the next step in our weather within the sim.

So your now implying Reed is lying or misleading us?

Reed has just said the only thing that does not work when using AS is the REX weather engine. Well that's no surprise is it! lol, and great to get confirmed.

Why don't we just wait and see, its taken 3 years let's give it a try first before jumping to statements.

If you end up buying this J am going to give you a LOT of stick :laugh:  It's not like you going to buy it first you will wait for guinea pigs like me to report first

J when buying an addon, Don't need it > It looks good >Not sure >bought it >don't like it >does not work >wait its working >love it!.......

To balance the argument if it does not set a new leave then it's a big epic fail.

But until we see please lets hope we all are getting a new milestone in our weather and stop being so cynical all of you.

I don't know if I am as angry as you are but I can sympathize with the too many options being a pain.  No one wants to go in and pick out a theme that works after looking at a METAR and with as much flight planning as it takes to get off the ground, most people probably don't want to play with a theme to get the right clouds for the day.  But, Rex never said that was going to be the case, so it will be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

The bottom line to me is that the weather, sky, and clouds in P3D suck.  Sunset flights in the desert look great but anything with clouds looks nothing like flying in the real world.  I have been in quite a few cockpits in my life and I can promise you the most unrealistic things about P3D (aside from the landscape stuttering when you initiate a turn) are the clouds in the sky/weather around you, and the night environment being a close second.  Visually those are just terrible if you are into how the outside world looks.  Weather systems are insanely complex, P3D reflects none of that well.  Granted, I can't imagine a more complex thing to simulate than weather considering it seems like half the worlds supercomputers are used to model it.  But Rex is at least taking a stab at giving us to next-gen weather which will require shortcuts and trade-offs when compared to the real world, but it has to be better than what is out there now.

Brian

Again how do you know you need to pick anything?

How do you know that Skyforce is not using - utilizing all that variety, 20GB worth to present you with a new level of variety in what you see so no two flights are ever the same in a new way we have not seen before?

With 732GB free on my P3D v4 SSD am not to bothered about 20GB. Or even my Addon SSD for P3D that has 174 GB free.

With close to 11,000 hits on this topic it's not lacking interest, its upto REX to deliver. Personally I hope they do. Why would anyone not want that?

They better deliver as some of you know I can be brutal on reviews.

In all the years I've been involved with flight simulation, it NEVER ceases to amaze me how the rampant speculation starts when a new product is announced. Couple that with some people reading more into or out of the words posted by others. The only thing that surpasses that is, after the product IS released and all the attaboys and trashtalk start in earnest.

I know it will cut down our post count drastically but for once I'd like to see us just wait and see and be surprised!

But, I still believe in Santa Claus too...................

Thanks!

This has been asked several times but without an "official" answer yet as far as I can see:

Does the Skyforce Weather Engine include historic weather?

Anyway, as far as I understand your previous posts we can still use AS, including its historic weather, without losing any of the graphical features of Skyforce, correct?

Really curious to see the screenshot from FL300 of the overcast sky. If it truly is what is being advertised, I shouldn't see a single hole in the cloud layer. The last time I've seen this depicted somewhat correctly was surprisingly FS98. Let's see what this thing does, getting sort of excited from reading the features on their website.

I'm taking everything they say with a "grain of salt".

There are some "holes" in the explanation of what Skyforce is actually capable of.

How about a new video actually demonstrating the unique features of Skyforce?

Matthew S

i was actually shocked when i saw the old video when they released they page, but the problem is the lack of inflight screenshots.
