Sky Force: credit where credit is due

Featured Replies

I've been pretty vocal (in a not too positive way, I have to add) about REX's marketing of Sky Force and the problems and lack of support I had to get it running, so well, I think it is only fair then to also be pretty vocal about my appreciation of Sky Force now everything is actually working.

I am enjoying my clouds immensely now. Take note that I come from the freeware HDE clouds so I might have taken a greater leap forward than those who have been using other texture addons but anyway, I have never seen such beautiful and varied clouds in my sim as I am seeing now. (I say clouds only because weather and skies are from the competition.) As I am typing this I am doing a flight above Norway with real time weather and the overcast sky looks as overcast as overcast can be and also the broken clouds I saw during cruise looked awesome. Just now I am descending into an overcast sky again and boy, do I like what I see. (Apart from the transparent clouds that I sometimes see but REX is looking into that, so I've read.)

So thanks, REX, for this great addon! I can highly recommend it to everyone.

I used just about every product out there. For clouds upto now ASCA with REX Soft clouds was my preferred choice.

But SF Cloud structures/overcast bring a new level I have not seen before and I would of disappointment binned SF within hours if I had not like it.

LEBL of the coast from this morning flight, so subtle and so nice to see. You don't look at this and think I will fly though that!

Like you J I'm loving SF

Hats off to you, Jeroen!
That deserves a +1 from here.

Happy flying.

Nice post, Jeroen - thanks for sharing.

I'm personally of the opinion that the cloud models really do add quite a lot to the realism with the much greater vertical dimension.  Spring and summer in the USA will really be the true test for me.

Best!

For me ASP4 + SkyForce (disabled ASCA) is the best weather injection I have seen yet.  Loving it!

Have to agree with all of the above.  Running ASP4 with SF, and am seeing great cloud formations. To see clouds "towering" above  you is awe inspiring.

Great post Jeroen. Slow support is to be expected when a big new product like this is launched, but it's good you're now all up and running.

I recently upgraded my Opus FSI to v5, as I wasn't convinced spending more money on ASP4 rather than an Opus upgrade will make a difference. The result has been incredible. Flying around in the weather has become so much more immersive. I can't wait for Environment Force and Weather Force. The complete Force line-up will reveal the true power of these products.

Agree here too. Even with a default weather theme the clouds mostly have a great new sense of height and volume.

One the downside there still seem to be quite a few cloud structures in a scene that are pretty unconvincing or just down right comical. Some of those towering cumulus look like gigantic fluffy UFOs or Marge Simpson's hair on a bad day. There are also these annoying texture-less light blue and grey clouds that I assume are meant to create perspective but don't quite work.

Still definitely a must have add-on for me.

I'm still using REX Texture Direct and Essentials w/ Active Sky Next, and until someone figures how to get some real COLOR into clouds, like I see every day in the real world, I'm not seeing enough to change anything.   This IMO is the biggest deficiency by far in cloud textures and behaviors.  Beyond this, it's gotten quite decent, all except this is a glaringly missing piece.  From a few days ago here in Northern California.

i still cant bring my self to spend £40 on a sky texture pack :(

It’s not just sky texture, it’s sky structures and textures.

If you have bought any other Rex textures before it cost £29

No more than a good airport except you get the benefit every fight you do, anywhere in the world.

There is not many addons that you can do that with. So getting a good weather engine and a depiction of that weather is money well spent. You get the benefit all the time.

I am very happy for you all guys , but imho from all screenshots I have seen nothing beats the ASP4 + ASCA + EnvTex combo regarding matching the real world weather look ( looking outside the window )...
