April 24, 20188 yr What are your system specs and screen resolution? i7-14700k | Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F Gaming WIFI | 32GB DDR5 RAM | MSI RTX 4080 Super | WD Black SN850X 1TB & 2TB | Corsair HX1000i ATX3.0 | MSI MAG401QR 40" monitor | Win 11 Pro 64-bit | Meta Quest 3
April 24, 20188 yr I just went from a GTX 970 to a GTX 1070Ti. I'm running a [email protected]. My monitor is 1920x1080. I didn't see any huge performance boost going to the 1070. I did it mostly so I would have a backup GPU. With the current situation regarding video card pricing I wanted to cover myself in case my main card died. I was able to get the 1070 Ti directly from Nvidia for the regular price instead of the grossly inflated prices you see everywhere else. Edited April 24, 20188 yr by mwilk
April 24, 20188 yr Hi Folks, Good to know - as I expected... I while back I went from a GTX570 to a GTX970 and the performance boost seemed disappointingly negligible... Regards, Scott

Thankfully, I bought it from the local best buy and was able to return it. Don't waste your time or money. MSFS
April 27, 20188 yr Author Thanks everyone, I'll stick with my GTX970 in that case. I thought due to the memory only using 3.5G instead of the 4G as advertised there maybe some mileage but apparently not so. For vortex681 I have a i7-950 overclocked to 4.080G screen resolution of 1920x1080 [24inch Monitor] what I really need is a new generation CPU but with everything priced out of this world these days saving up enough money for one of latest and greatest would take me a couple of years (Small pension) I have seen an i7-4770K on Ebay that's currently bidding at 50 UK Pounds which I am keeping my eye on, so that's a possiblity for me. Thanks for your interest. __ Catmar
April 27, 20188 yr Just a thought if you wait till later this year and keep an eye on the classified ads on Avsim, you may see some who have upgraded to the new 1100 series selling there 10 series cards to recoup some cost, avoid eBay some are ex mining and some could be scams. Raymond Fry.
April 27, 20188 yr If you're using x plane I'd say yeah - but at 1080P in P3D - meh | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Great idea Raymond thanks for the tip. Clive __ Catmar
May 7, 20188 yr There's a lot of GTX 1180 rumors, but the nicest rumor related to flight sims today is the 16 GB VRAM: https://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1180-12nm-database/
May 8, 20188 yr Yes some who have looked at the specs and possible performance don`t think user on a 1080ti will be worth upgrading, and for flight sim I suspect even less and it still does not fully utilise the GPU. Raymond Fry.
May 8, 20188 yr Went from a GTX 970 to 1070 early last year. It depends entirely on the game/sim. P3D and XP11 saw a small to moderate improvement. Some 3D shooters and other "AAA" titles saw a huge improvement. Two reasons to wait might be: -Prices are still recovering from the crypto mining bubble. I paid €399 for my GTX 1070 in Feb. 2017, you absolutely shouldn't pay more than this - the card launched for €419 / $379 in 2016! -New cards might be just around the corner. While I wouldn't expect the price/performance ratio to be great due to the lack of competition, it's always annoying to buy something new only to have it surpassed within months. -
May 11, 20188 yr I had a heads up on Twitter from NVidia that they now have full stock of the 10 series GPU`s in stock at MRRP. Well they have nothing else to sell at the moment and there profits only went up by 66% in the 1st quarter compared to last year. Raymond Fry.
