NVIDIA Control Panel and HDMI - Heads Up

Featured Replies

I found this today accidentally, with the new NVIDIA drivers(for quite some time now), default color settings are in compatibility mode for old TV's. So, if you are using default NCP settings, you are probably missing some "HD part" of your monitor / TV capability. I'm posting this, becouse it makes a huge difference for my HD monitor. I don't know if this is default only if you are using HDMI cable or not. This is what needs to be checked:

In NVIDIA Control Panel, go to "Change Resolution" and check what is selected under "Output dynamic range". It should be "Full", and it's "Limited" by default. Just change it to "Full" and apply settings.

Like i said, it makes a huge difference. I hope some of you will find it useful

Hi. It's been that way for as long as I can remember..I accidently came across the info in one of Rob's posts last year. But thanks for raising it again. Useful information. And yes, it makes a huge difference. Regards.

Thanks for this.  I'm on displayport, however I found my refresh rate was set to 50hz instead of 60hz AND changing to FULL makes a real difference.

also, under "adjust deskop size and position", select the full screen. By default is "aspect ratio" i think. It fixed some issues for me, for example wing views where way of with default settings. The credits for this goes to Jim, i've read his post about this somewhere. Those are the only 2 default settings i changed.

And yes, Rob, you should definitely pin that topic

Also, need to be aware that whenever you update graphics drivers or do a Windows major update (like 1803) it will reset this back to default "Limited".

As well, it's been my experience that installing the monitor's "drivers" (which usually consist of a .cat, .icm, and an .inf to make the other two files go where they're supposed to be) will make the setting in "Output dynamic range" change to "FULL" (because the system is then working off a specific ICC profile as dictated by the .icm file).  The monitor's drivers should be reinstalled any time the video drivers are changed (or a major OS update occurs, as Rob noted).

I'll check with Admins, not sure they want YouTube videos in a pinned topic ... I've never monetized any of my videos so I'm certainly not doing it for the money 🤣

Cheers, Rob.

This may be the best ever tweak. I had no idea of this but once the changes were made, my whole FSX experience moved up a huge leap. Incredible change in the picture.

Rob and anyone else who helped find this should receive an Intelligence Star....:)

Thank you guys..

So P3D V4 only supports 8bit? No need to select 12bit if you have it available?

P3D, XP11, AF2, DCS, FSW, FSX ... are all 8bit color PER CHANNEL.

There are a few "games" that support 10bit color, I'm not much of a 3D shooter/gamer but I did buy FC5 (Far Cry 5) to checkout it's 10bit option.

Cheers, Rob.

What a find. I have had my Viewsonic FullHD 24" for 6 years now, in TV mode lol. Thank You Lodestar.

I use it for my ASUS 4K monitor and if you use HDMI lead connector , you get access to UHD and you can set the res and more colour options, I use Nvidia colour control you then adjust the colour plait.
