I cheerfully bought the entire Aerosoft Airbus Pro family whilst being entirely aware they'd probably miss the deadline, so it's really not a big deal to me and certainly no surprise, but having bought the thing I think I'm at least entitled to have a bit of a laugh about it and point out something I think they should address, they can grant me that much when I paid the price of admission. Most flight simmers know deadlines for software slip a bit, it happens so often that it's almost become the norm, but just because it happens a lot doesn't make it acceptable to keep on doing it. Aerosoft do have a bit of a legendary status with that sort of thing, as evidenced by their CRJ, which reached stratospherically comical levels as far as delays were concerned, and whilst it did eventually get released and is a good product, they really only have themselves to blame for a reputation for delays when it stems from them making announcements about release dates which they cannot adhere to, and it doesn't matter what the reason for the delay is, if you can't make that date or suspect you may not, then don't make an announcement committing to it. This is not a difficult concept to understand. Personally, I actually like Aerosoft a lot as a company, some of their stuff is among the best you can get, and in the grand scheme of things, a toy aeroplane arriving a bit late is not a big deal to me, but they and other companies don't do themselves any favours by announcing deadlines they can't stick to, particularly for products which they've already taken the money for, as is the case with the A320 and A321. One thing which was sacred in newspapers when I worked in them as a writer was a deadline, or right from the off you said what would be possible in the available time, there was no such thing as 'not making it', you did whatever it took to hit that deadline, and that was that. The software industry could do with a bit of that attitude, or if not, then they shouldn't make such deadlines public. PMDG have got that bit right, all they ever say is it'll be ready when it is ready, and so they never let anyone down in that regard. As I say, such a short delay is not really that big a deal, but it is nevertheless a common trend in the software industry which should be addressed either by being a bit more professional about doing what you say you will do, or not saying you will do something you cannot be certain of. This is a product with 'pro' in its title after all. We'll put Alan. From my perspective, as a user of their old Bus and prospective buyer of the new one, (at full price cause I lost my receipts), they release the new model with issues and then are honest enough to post what the issues are! http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/133133-whats-not-available-whats-wrong/ Regards David
September 5, 20187 yr If it makes anyone feel better, our IT department at a U.S. Fortune 50 firm misses its own internal deadlines quite often. It seems the human condition is overly optimistic when asked to give predictions on how long something will take. I've also seen developers try to give an honest answer regarding timelines and get promptly berated by management. We all want to give an answer based on the "Happy Path", meaning everything will go perfectly...and to please management...all while forgetting about mandatory training, routine meetings, holidays, and "keeping the lights on", i.e. support. An article for a newspaper can be pushed out the door with a few mistakes or omissions or grammar errors, but software....it only takes one division by zero calculation to bring it all to its knees. Mark Try telling that to my old editor at the Manchester Evening News lol. He came within an inch of going to prison once when an article went out one time without being checked for reporting restriction violations on the Harold Shipman trial. It nearly stopped the trial. September 5, 20187 yr Yikes, can't argue with that example. And I can't recall any software engineer nearly going to jail for a division by zero mistake! Mark Mark Trainer

Harold Shipman Trial throw-out? Wow, Alan, incredible MEN revelation as the trial took place in my home town. Rick Almeida

Yup, off topic, but here's exactly what happened if you are curious... There were some reporting restrictions placed on some stuff related to the Harold Shipman case. These restrictions came into being a few days before the trial was due to commence, since it was felt (by the CPS) that certain stuff might prejudice a jury if it was repeated all over the press, which of course would mean it would not be a fair trial because you are supposed to be 'innocent until proven guilty' in the eyes of the judicial system at least. So, things which had previously been mentioned in many newspaper reports, and which were not restricted at that time (and which appeared in other media sources such as TV, radio and online news sites) were suddenly no longer okay to include in any reporting of the case. This type of restriction used to be called a 'D notice' but it ain't called that any longer. Anyway, what happened was that the Manchester Evening News duly altered its printed reports and did follow the restrictions, but, unfortunately it used to duplicate its printed stories on its MEN Online website, and when the restrictions kicked in, they accidentally left one or two of their older stories (which breached the restrictions) available to view on their news website, because they only bothered to check the printed versions of new editions coming out after the restrictions kicked in. Ooops! So the editor got hauled over the coals for that one by among others, the Crown Prosecution Service, as it could have meant a mis-trial, and that very nearly did occur from what I heard, which is why the editor was looking at a possible jail sentence, since when you are the editor, the buck stops with you. September 5, 20187 yr guys & gals my problem is whether the PRO version has "less faults" than previous versions ..... it's one thing to "upgrade to P3DV4", it is another to fix issues from the past eg the CDI pointer, crossover speeds for different CI etc.etc. the delays are probably because the PNF spilt coffee on the FMS keyboard ......... for now, cheers john martin

September 5, 20187 yr LOL did the OP forget the AS CRJ's 7 year delay? Plus another 6 months for bug fixes before it was flyable. Lolol
September 5, 20187 yr Eh...Why are people saying 1 year plus x days? They never gave a deadline until a few weeks ago. Originally they were going to make the old busses compatible for 64 bit. They didn't even give a deadline for this. Then they changed their minds, and decided it would be better to make a new product, properly optimised for 64 bit. The first date they gave was only a few weeks ago, when Mathijs said they would be aiming for the 6th of September. I love the way people interpret things their own way. Best regards, Neal McCullough
