Orbx TrueEarth Great Britain South Released for Prepar3D v4

I still use the old scenery.cfg method to add entries to the Scenery Library. I just prefer to be able to move them around manually, rather than having to install separate utilities to organise everything. Maybe it's because I mostly fly in a limited geographical area (UK and Ireland), so enabling and disabling scenery for each of my flights is relatively easy?

I got the answers I was looking for from Nick at the FTX forum. I'm looking forward to the new version of TEGB south. It's a beautiful region!

Like Chris, I've always relied on the scenery config editor to add or remove sceneries or airports. I've created a number of scenery.cfg regions, but things got a bit more complicated when devs decided to add the sceneries with the .xml method. Some add the scenery with their own .xml files, other devs use the add-on.xml file located in the roaming or program data folders. There's no consistency!

Then I discovered SimStarter NG and now I'm able to handle both scenery methods. Once I had all the profiles setup, there's is now need to worry about what ORBX Central does, because once I choose a profile, SmStarter does everything. Only the scenery.cfg I chose & add-on .xml airports selected are loaded. The sim loads quickly and best of all without the hassles that came from having to constantly worry about scenery order or disabling and enabling add-ons.

I'm a very happy simmer!

I use Lorby Si’s Addon Organizer. Great tool and works with Orbx Central too....

Is central 4 still mandatory for this along with ESGG ?

Is it safe to run the central installer now without scenery.cfg issues at all?

Michael Moe (Central 3 user)

I got ESGG yesterday (wonderful scenery btw) and needed to update from Central 3 to the new Central. Central added a layer number to every add-on.xml of my 246 add-ons (most xml made by me for my own needs) without any possibility to prevent the automatic numbering. My original numbering (e.g., layer 3 for every file that needed to be in scenery/world) is now disrupted by Central. All of my own layers that I only used for the layer 3 scenario are spread between P3D stock folders but I did not check the affected sceneries for any anomalies yet. However, Central made a backup of my xmls but I guess that they will be replaced again as soon as I fire up Central.

Changing everything of the setup without even asking me is something I utterly dislike and a form of incapacitation by ORBX. So,  I can not say that I am happy with the new Central.

Looking at most of the entries in your screen shot, they appear to be elevation adjustment files.

Following the update to P3D v 4.5.13.32097, they are more or less redundant, as P3D now reads

from the highest airport version in the library, which in that configuration, is the airport itself.

I agree that it looks untidy but as the files are not being read by P3D, they cannot affect your airports.

It would not surprise me to see that developers eventually do away with these files for their P3D v4.5 +

airport versions, of course they will still be needed for earlier versions if people choose to stay with them.

Now that is interesting! Thank you very much for pointing this out, Reader. First time I hear about this and I normally take the time to read the change logs. Sounds very promising and would make the life a lot easier if we can get rid off the elevation adjustment files.

Christoph

Michael, it would be a shame for you to skip anything due to a lack of confidence in Central 4.

As @GSalden said a few posts up, Lorby-SI’s Addon Organizer works great with Central 4. Pick-up the freeware tool and get comfortable using it to add, remove, activate, deactivate and re-order scenery both in scenery.cfg and using .xml methods.

As before, the Orbx insertion points are critical. Check that these are set where you want them before closing Central.
Most people appear to be having trouble when they have not set these points exactly where they wanted.

Thanks but I dont have any insertion problems with Central3 and Lorbi AO.

Guess Central 4 just use that when updating  then?

Lots of people who did not start with a clean P3Dv4 and used Central  on an existing config got in trouble.

Every time I think of switching to Central I see new Topics about Central issues. Even today..

I only hope that the TE GB update can be installed with FTX Central like I have it installed. Not that I am being forced to Central..

Let me decide when/if I want to install Central...

Michael,

Just to clarify here as I made you skeptical: My criticism against Central was mainly based on the actions the software does without any user confirmation. Central and the sim itself run fine even after the switch to new Central. So, if you are interested in ESGG and the new TrueEarth titles you should go for it. Just make some backup of your scenery.cfg and add-on.xml in case anything goes wrong.

Best,
Christoph

TrueEarth looks stunning and would love to have my home country in this detail but sadly I need the FPS that OLC brings.

I heard about it by word of mouth and also do not see it in the change log.

It was quite a significant change which affects the navigation data addon software as well but it seems that no one at Lockheed Martin thought that it was worth mentioning, at least to the public.

Released!

I'm buying the new areas now, will report back tomorrow.

Discounted prices available on a bundle.
(To get discount as an existing owner of TE GB South, just add both North and Central areas to basket).

New to TE GB? Add all 3 areas to basket for an even bigger discount.

Note the following info:

Quote
  • You will need Orbx Central for installing TrueEarth Great Britain
  • Orbx Central is required to update Great Britain South to Version 2 - the update will not be available on FTX Central
  • The South Version 2 update will delete the old V1 folders for you during installation
  • Please ensure Orbx Central is updated to Version 4.0.33
  • Please ensure your Orbxlibs is updated to 19.6.2
