July 25, 20196 yr On account of the 'flashes in the headset? Well, get off the fence and into an S! There has been a firmware update today and after mooching about for over an hour on my MP server and DTP server as well as in the 'Home' (don't you just love that cr..?) I didn't see one flash. Normally I would get a minimum 2 flashes an hour to a maximum of 5...ish. Oculus seem to have come through, although I confess I did have my doubts. P.S. This'll come and bite me on the bum I bet. July 25, 20196 yr Ron, I own the Rift S and I just got the Valve Index. I'm seriously considering sending the Index back and just keeping the Rift S. The Oculus software was much easier to use when it comes to flight simulators as opposed to Steam VR. While the resolution is better, it also can be a resource hog. Edited July 25, 20196 yr by mwilk

July 26, 20196 yr What they haven't fixed though is the ghost controllers showing up again. I have phantom right controllers in my software that I can't delete.

Should I bother with the index? Owner, Fulcrum Simulator Controls. fulcrumsim.com facebook.com/fulcrumsimulatorcontrols instagram.com/fulcrumsimulatorcontrols twitter.com/Fulcrum_SC

Should I bother with the index? I just sent my Index back for a refund this morning. I got it to use mostly with X-Plane 11. The Index uses canted displays which XP 11 doesn't support at this time. The developers have said they'd look at it some time in the future. I get better performance in both XP11 and P3Dv4 with my Rift S. I also used the Index with DCS and that was fine. It really depends on what games you're going to use it with. I suggest you check out the Index forum on Reddit.
August 20, 20196 yr I recently purchased a Rift S to replace my aging Rift CV1. In P3D the visuals with the Rift S are significantly better than the Rift CV1. Ultimately I returned the Rift S for a refund and have moved back to my Rift CV1. I returned the Rift S due to very poor controller tracking in other games like Onward, etc. I also had a problem with the Rift S display blacking out when switching between games. The problem was not resolved with the typical reboot / restart / unplug routine. In summary, if I used my VR headset for P3D exclusively then the Rift S might have been worth keeping. Since I use VR in other games, I could not justify keeping the Rift S given the controller tracking issues I was having. Just my .02 cents. Edited August 20, 20196 yr by chrisdev01

I have it since release and never had that "black out" problem and I´ve never played "Onward" but I´m quite happy with the tracking so far. cheers Carlos NLR Motion Platform V3, Intel Core i9-9900K OC @ 5Ghz, Gigabyte Gaming OC 11GB RTX 2080ti, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra. I've had the CV-1 since the day it was released, but I bought the Rift-S recently hoping the visuals & overall comfort were improved......but, I did not experience either. I only use it for P3D v4.5. Granted, I use the debug tool to set the oversample to 1.6 on the CV-1 which looks very good....cockpit displays readable.....but the Rift-S was nowhere near worth the money based on the visuals being about the same as the CV-1, plus the lack of IPD adjustment .....like others on the 'net, I found the field of vision to be just too limiting on the Rift S. Fuzzy edges drove me to return it and use the money elsewhere. August 31, 20196 yr Author The important thing is you're happy. Trawl the VR related internet and you'll find hundreds of post saying that one make/model is better/worse than another. I can't agree with you about picture quality. P3D was dreadful with the CV1 and miiiles better with the S so that I can return to P3D. I do, however agree with the comfort bit. I cannot recall having to keep adjusting the CV1 as I do with the S. I'm continually trying to find the comfort 'sweet spot'. It's probably the shape of my face! We're all different eh? Or that you don't have a defective unit? The S is so much better than the CV1 that if someone says what you just said, I'd suspect something fishy is up.
