I use process lasso to set the affinity of every service/program that is running on win10, P3d gets cores 0-7 but everything else gets 4-7. Once the PC is up and running I shut down PL and the affinity settings are left intact

this way I dont need any AM in P3d and I keep core 0 exclusively for P3d

I have an i79700k and have found on my rig if P3d starts on anything other than core 0 I am guaranteed disappearing autogen!

Do not use PL to control P3D !

Programs that have their own AM setting: These are best used that way, as there are many ways the outcome of their operation is not what is intended, when applying an external control.

He / she doesn't.

So every other program or service running on the PC is given an artificial AM via Process Lasso, but P3D is left to use all 8 cores.

Exactly what I do. I don't need an AM for P3D, but want to keep everything else off cores 0 and 1.

What I would check with 8 or more cores is to see how much improvement 8 or more is over 6. It could outbalance with 8 or more applied.

Generally a quick setup to check performance on an 8 would be

01111110 = 126 or with HT enabled 5460.

Similarly with FSX and a six core we see

30 = 011110 and with HT enabled 340 = 00,01,01,01,01,00

 usually gives the best performance.

With P3D v4 and six cores it's not so clear.

Turn off dense cirrus overcast layer in rex environment force if you have it on. Gave me a fps boost when i did that!

Currently clouds and mist any kind of see-through stuff, requires lots of GPU.

Yet at the same time - LM needs to overhaul the graphic engine.  We can't keep defending that engine is great, it is being pushed beyond its lifespan

What I felt was that it has been a long time in the running, the old FSX engine, but it is still as good as you can get. There's a lot of effort ongoing to improve the quality of view in game, from the GPU and the software giants. The interviews with MS shows they felt they could not really do much worth doing, until now.. So we are maybe moving into a new era. With new GPU capabilities, combined with Cloud looking after immeasurable amounts of data, so we don't have to, the lifespan of the engine in this way has been increased.

I'm getting 30fps coming into EGLL on QFA9 @ 1440p.  I don't have the payware airport but have ORBX England/HD Buildings and have AS + ASCA on Global Automatic with the default cloud layers.  I'm also using QW787 with hi res panels.  Thing I found is turn the autogen down to Normal/Medium settings.  Happy with how it looks.

Running i5-9600K @ 4.8ghz - 32GB DDR4 3200mhz - GTX 3070.

I run ORBX England and Aerosoft LHR, to get the best performance I deactivated all of the BGLs which apply to airfields I do not visit (all of the GA stuff).

I now have the good looking cities and a much better frame rate (plus 10 in the London area), the downside is that the P3D default airfields are covered in trees but I can live with that

I have also done this with the other region products like SoCal and have much better FPS there also, wont be for everyone but worked for me.

I wish you could share a list of the bgls you deactivated for both regions. Please do that if you can. Or post a screenshot with those deactivated.

Thanks!

You haven't mentioned any Ai so that plus no 3rd party Heathrow will give you a huge boost. I have Aerosoft Heathrow Pro and AIG Ai with 100% set. With over 300 Ai in a 80nm radius and running 3840*2160 I get around 20fps on approach to 27R in the PMDG737. System specs in sig.

During busy periods at Heathrow, it's not unusual for me to see nearly every gate populated with an AI (both manual and AIG). With this amount of AI on the ground, turning off,  "aircraft cast shadows" will certainly claw back a surprising number of FPS.

I never run AI I always fly on VATSIM.  If you want pretty bells and whistles you won't get decent frames.  20fps is not acceptable to me.

Same here with around 250+ AI and the ProSim737, and no on-screen cockpit, but 3 windows for the 210 degree view.

The difference with my new overclocked system (9900K at 5.5Ghz) is that, as well as the AI increase I can obtain, it is smooth. Very pleased.

Still some stutters over London itself though. Just not approaching Aerosoft Heathrow, not on finals, landing and taxiing.

“Pretty bells and whistles”? I was just trying to help but if you’re just going to disparage my choice I won’t be commenting any further. 🤨

WoW, you have some epic cooling going on in your rig Pete. Or does it sit in a freezer?
