Partly that’s because it’s a bit irrelevant what unoptimised code is running on I think, and could cause more trouble than it’s worth.

Whilst I agree in principle, it's a good habit for them to get into. They can always apply a caveat that it's unoptimized and may eventually run on lesser hardware but at least it gives a starting point for our expectations. My experience with games going from early alpha/beta releases to the full version is that performance improves but rarely dramatically.

I think it would be better if they just told us the minimum PC system specs to run it at all, and then the "recommended" system specs for best performance at a given monitor resolution (probably 4k).

They'll be designing with those goals in mind, and then it wouldn't matter if we're seeing pre-Alpha footage running on a supercomputer because the sim isn't optimized yet.

X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10
i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor

Those are all things which will come when the time is right. We are in no position, at this point, to demand anything since the game have been announced not so long ago, we are in summer and they already gave us a calendar with more info coming.
Surely later on we'll see more about performance itself, especially when there will be a public build given to the usual youtubers and surely a minimum/recommended requirements too

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

It's too early to give us system specs.  I'm sure they are currently running it on beasts of PC's because let's be honest the sim is still in ALPHA and over a year from release.  There's debug code in there and it's super unoptimized so it's doubtful they could even pinpoint what the min specs will be yet.

Looking forward to tomorrow's update, I hope it's a big one.

Yep, my first computer was one of the early clones, a Sanyo MBC 550 that could run flight sim, and was a heck of a lot cheaper than the IBM PC.

Not as cheap as the first computer - with the original flight sim

"Commodore 64" - circa 1983

Psion Software Flight Simulation, Timex/Sinclair ZX81, 1982 😉   Loaded by cassette tape and everything!

subLOGIC Flight Simulator 2 for the C64 was released in 1984. subLOGIC Flight Simulator for Apple ][ in 1980.

Man I feel old knowing and having owned zx81, C64 and a PCXT with a whole 10gb hard drive back in the day...

I know - I opened a commodore only comp store with my eldest son in 84 and sold quite a few.

Barstow Manor was the most popular game

I recently disposed of my COM monitor down to the local tip

You must have been a billionaire. Are you sure it wasn't a 10 MB one? 😉 I remember buying a 64 MB (or so) drive somewhere around 1990. It cost an absolute fortune. Now you can buy a USB stick of that size for just a few bucks...

It was the size of a washing machine 😉 Yeah, MB.... And a whole 640K RAM that nobody would ever need more than.....

And back on topic - sounded like an APU starting up 😛

I remember "upgrading" my 286 with a 20MB HD. I also remember the 'sticker shock' of paying around $530 USD, which in today's dollars would be roughly $1264.

I remember the first Western Digital hard drive to hit the market was 5mb and was $4500.00

My first 20 cost about the same as yours, Bill.

Thank you.
