Pesky Rodents

Featured Replies

The other evening I was taking the back roads when a Deer sprung out of nowhere and I had to make a fast stop. As I was driving away I started to think, heck this could be possible in FS2020 now that we know there are animals and birds etc. In fact Deers have been in X Plane for years and I figured MS would likely include them. But what about small pesky rodents? For bush flying it could be interesting to start the takeoff roll and a bunch of squirrels or raccoons jump out from the grass and cross the runway. Quick thinking, slam the brakes or swerve to miss them?  It could be interesting.

What? Running them over isn't an option?

5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX  9070XT.

We already have that with some OrbX sceneries.

To go further I'd  be glad to have an ObjectFlow-type of animated characters in FS20 : two dozens humans and animals.

Never heard of a deer strike (maybe on x-mas eve?), but Sully would certainly be able to handle that too .

As airfield had no overseer
Pilot was not surly
Thought it rather silly
So he taxied back for a beer

A few years ago hunters had to be called to MCO because the deer population was so great it was causing delays and near accidents on the runways.  A bit of venison in the freezer solved that problem. Now it's coyotes. Never ending battle with Mother Nature.

Thank you.

The coyote 😁 « a living, breathing allegory of Want. He is always hungry. He is always poor, out of luck and friendless. The meanest creatures despise him and even the flea would desert him for a velocipede. » Chapter V of Mark Twain’s Roughing It on the « Cayote » (about 10 pages) is highly recommended for a hearty laugh.

That’s made me think that it would be definitely good to have many more actual people in the sim, even if it’s just at airports. If there’s a magic way they can do it that doesn’t need 20 years of cpu development to cope, it would be great to see crowds of people in cities and big towns too instead of the post-apocalyptic scenes we have now.

For some reason, now I'm expecting the Aug 29 update to mention rodents.

I know these critters, I'm often driving on rural roads and these suicide squirrels love to dash across right in front of the car as I'm speeding along.

😁

Something like «  BREAKING NEWS trees fallen on sloped runways gnawed down by beavers » ?

Seriously, Microsoft only need to include a few rodents in the official product, but if there is an open rodent sdk (or rodent framework), we can expect 3rd party developers to create a world of living and chewing rodents, of every kind.

I'm imagining a mission with giant rodents attacking the airport. Try to quickly get your cold and dark aircraft up and out. Complicated by a crying 6 yr. old that wants you to go back and get their prized Teddy Bear before the rats discover and eat it...

Could be a big seller.

Coyotes are often a big problem at KGYY (Chicago-Gary International Airport). Gah, what a pretentious title for an airport with a lovely new terminal with TWO jet bridges, and precisely ZERO commercial traffic.

Its only claim to usefulness is that it hangars the Boeing corporate fleet and is the home of a new Indiana ANG facility.
