The X-Plane Graphics engine is not now, or in future, linked to the Flight model system in any way at all. Completely separate systems from separate developers. In fact 11.40 release is all about Flight modeling improvements Only, and 11.45 will be Vulkan Only.

In X-Plane there is a slider which allows you to decide how many flight model calculations per frame you want. I think this is what is meant with linking the flight model to the graphics engine.

I can appreciate procedural grass for what it is worth, having painstakely created my own 3D grass for a scenery of mine. Procedural grass is very much welcome if we, the users, can access the tool to make our own.

But honestly... I'd rather see greens (grass and bushes) along runways,  taxiways or dirtstrips. We are not expecting the new Elder Scrolls episode here  but a flight simulator. I doubt that I will ever walk on the Rue de la Croix Paqueray but I know that I will take off from Granville LFRF which is about 8 nm to the North.

Maybe the time has come to focus the scenery teasers a little more on aviation ?

I guess you are not a helicopter fan or maybe you forgot the missions on FSX where very commonly it was required to land in the middle of nowhere?

I don't understand all this "nay-saying". Development is going just in the direction I hoped for. First, the sloped runways. And now this awesome grass... and particularly for me and other fellow real world pilots who often use grass runways, this is really fantastic news.

Grass runways and grass areas near hard runways/taxiways would benefit from this procedural grass, so I for one welcome it.

I spend most of my simming in the middle of nowhere, Alaska, Indonesia, PNG etc.. The 3D grass I was refering to was for a dirt strip in a small island in the Bismarck Sea. Missions ? I create mine thank you very much.

Anyway, you are so happy to pounce, why trying to understand what the other guy says when you can do some grandstanding about naysayers ?  Proc grass is very good news (the part you cut when quoting me), I only wished that we see it in an aviation environment.

Well, if a picture paints a thousand words, then this surely is it for the flightsim to come.  Way beyond expectation.   The money shot will be procedural grass alongside a long, sloped runway.

It's not often that I don't know what to say but....I have no words today.

I dont really understand what the dates mean.  Does "release schedule open"mean that FS2020 will be available for purchase in October of 2019?

Could someone explain what is procedurally generated grass and what makes it so great ?

Thanks !

It's grass automatically placed by the engine around the scenery. What you see in the picture is autogenerated.

It's great because you can populate the whole world with accurate vegetation. It would be impossible to do it manually.

Let's say they are using the Azure A.I. to do this task. In that case the A.I. will use the imagery and other data to choose which type of vegetation will be placed in each part of the world.
