OK, you've got a few years on me but I'm 67 and set to retire at the end of this month so I don't think whippersnapper quite applies. In any case, my point about P3D being stable wasn't to gloat and it certainly wasn't intended to highlight my superior technical expertise 😁 but to showcase the exact opposite. Since my last post in this thread I've thought a bit about possible differences between my results and what others experience with constant installing and re-installing and only one thing comes to mind. In the FS world I am NOT an early adopter. I understand why others enjoy living on the bleeding edge when it comes to simming - for many that's part of what makes the hobby enjoyable for them. But for my part, I'm a private pilot who's no longer actively flying, and simming helps fill that hole. I'm here for the actual flying part. Bottom line - I just want the sim to work, so I proceed cautiously with any and all changes. When something new comes out or some big change occurs, I wait for the dust to settle and for most issues to be well identified and addressed before proceeding on. I do keep up and continue to evolve my sim environment, but I do so slowly and with an eye towards stability. Keeping a couple of steps back from the bleeding edge guys seems to work for me. Wow, this got off topic ... is Noel anywhere to be found? Cheers, Rob. So no more racing? I prefer to leave the fabrication to my experts who also handle my mechanical setup work but I like to tinker on the data side... Here is my latest toy, IR tire monitors... This helped us identify we weren't getting enough heat to the inside lip of my unloaded tires and they were actually tearing... Pretty cool. As for the OP, why the need to announce your departure? Just sneak out the back door if you want to leave 🙂 Edited October 18, 20196 yr by Jim Young Removed huge images from quote. Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

October 18, 20196 yr Author It's difficult for me to understand too, Jim, that's why I gave it up. It's never happened to me in FSX. I was a private pilot too, Scott, who gave it up about a decade ago when I failed my medical because of glaucoma. (I can hear the re;plies now...I don't have glaucoma and I fly flawlessly). When I lived in Denver I flew out of the old Sky Ranch in Aurora. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

Love Jetline Systems and the computers they build....and I never think I'm too old to keep learning. It keeps you young. Stan

I keep telling myself I'll still fly again "some day", but I've not renewed the medical in some time, and there'd be some hoops to jump through for me to get one again, though I think I still could. But costs have taken what was already an expensive endeavor back when I owned my plane and multiplied several times over. It's be financially daunting. I started flying out of KGXY just about the time Sky Ranch was shutting down, so I've never flown in there. Some of the hangars still stand, I guess, but I haven't been in that part of the Denver area in a few years. Scott
October 18, 20196 yr Author Rob, I do want to give up P3D. And I won't try XPlane or anything else that comes down the line. I'm not that competent anymore. FSX fits me like a flannel house coat. I wore P3D like chain mail. I've got to stick with what I already know. Right now I am loading up FSX with MAIW military airports and ai. And I can do it because I learned how to use AIFP3 to convert FS9 traffic files to FSX traffic files some time ago when I had FSX but had not yet jumped into P3D. I also have FS9 on my system because of California Classic propliner airports and aircraft. When I was still a young man in my 60s I produced some scenery for California Classic which is still available on the website. Even as new simulators come on line and will probably go to subscription Cal Classic and MAIW are STILL developing for FS9. Like the energizer rabbit FSX and FS9 keep plugging along. That's not say I eschew everything new. For several years now I have been reluctant t drive on highways because of deteriorating attention span and reaction time. Esecially in New Mexico where speed limits are 70MPH. Last week I brought my 6 year old Prius in for service. While I was waiting I went and talked to my salesman to pass the time. He's sold me 5 cars in the past 25 years (two replacements for cars my wife wrecked). I told him of my concerns about highway driving. He let me test drive a brand new Prius that, for me, has a copilot that lets me drive on the highway now. It's magic. If someone is coming up on my blind spot my side view mirror starts flashing. If I start drifting across a lane line I get beeps and the graphic shows me I am crossing the line. When I back out of a parking space in the super market and a car is coming I get an beeps and the car graphic flashes red in the rear. It has a speedometer HUD so I don't have to look away from the windshield to check my speed. When I am in cruise control and I am coming up on a car going slower than I am it automatically slows me down. And he connected my I{hone to the car some way so I can press a button on the steering wheel to answer the phone. Now I couldn't set all this up myself, but the salesman did that for me. I drove home in it. As long as it's turnkey or I already know how to do it I'm comfortable. Otherwise I get confused and lost. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 18, 20196 yr I agree Rob, but he's also stubborn as hell. I've been down that road arguing with him for almost a year now. I still love the old grouch though. He's a good friend. Sue

This is a hobby that's supposed to bring happiness and joy and fun to the user. If you enjoy the sim you are using then that's all you have to do. October 19, 20196 yr Author Ron, your mother only has two years on me (I'll be 86 in December) so you understand how we 'old grouches' can get. It's the learning curve that flattens out and makes it difficult for many of us to learn new things. So we revert to what we already know. Converting FS9 traffic files to FSX is turnkey. Just open the FS9 traffic file and press the compile button and it becomes and FSX traffic file. Sue, you are a sweetheart. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. That has to be the worst piece of technology ever invented. I see cars drive past me with that little light in the mirror, and as soon as that light goes out, they immediately change lanes and get in front of me. The blind spot monitoring system does NOT take into consideration the vehicle behind. That distance might work for another car, not really so much for a tractor-trailer. When you were 10 yrs old I was half your age...work that one out... I'm still keeping the cells alive, well, trying to...and still programming scenery in XLM.......and then, now and again, finding that I did this routine three weeks ago...and now I'm repeating it, phrase by phrase ...duh...memory ? what memory ? ...and when the RW Grobs fly over my garden at 200' to R03 EGOW half a mile away, I am always tempted to look up at them, and then I fall over...backwards. ...and BTW, sorry to upset you, I dunno what LM has done with this HF2 release, but I have never, never, had such a smooth sim. No stutters. No micro pauses. Even the FSL 'bus is smooth at 13 fps..(!) I'm flying the JF Hawk at 450 kts, at 1500', over 32-bit UK photoscenery with my own XML created airfield and it is SMOOTH, no mini pauses, nothing. I am impressed.👏 On a i7-3770K/970 combo at 3.8MHz ? Blooming marvelous. Don't give up. I really think that the golden age of flight sims is here, or very near, at last.
