Don't feed the trolls, people - they'll just multiply.

Shrugs and silence, is the best cure for it, IMO.

Yes, I agree. I will resist next time!

Feel free to offer noise generated clouds (not offered by any of the main civilian flight simulators and currently only from one combat flight simulator) and shader based seasons on your own. We'll be waiting your results since you clearly know better.

I have wanted xEnviro to succeed for almost 3 years after paying 70 bucks, 10 dollars more than the entire cost of XP simulator, only to realize it's a whole work in progress project by one guy in the basement (false/misleading advertising).

I have not found a useable version since 1.07 about 2 years ago!   And that was limited and with artifacts.

The best thing Ever for XP/xEnviro is FS2020 because it brings competition.   Like the tide going out everything is more clear now!

Awful people are on Avsim too. We don't need your comment just like we don't need the "XP bashing P3D" and "P3D bashing XP" comments.

And please enlighten us where in my previous comment did I bash xp or p3d?

Lets keep in mind that summer vs winter with its snow and ice is not the only issue. In India, for instance, the landscape is radically different before and after the monsoon.

It's like that in many places. About the only gripe I have about Orbx TE Washington scenery (where I live, out on the Olympic peninsula), is that cleared areas of vegetation and house lawns are mostly shades of brown. It uses satellite orthos during mid to late Summer, when the skies are clear, but the vegetation is dried out.

That's only a couple months out of the year. Open areas should be green for 10 months of the year. It just doesn't look right, if you know the area. They don't call it The Emerald State for nothing! Otherwise it's a good scenery package, but I have to pretend I'm only flying in July and August.

It will be interesting to compare this same home town area in the new MSFS. What's interesting and maybe encouraging is that the Bing maps and Google Maps show satellite images from slightly different times of year. The Google view is predominately brown, taken mid to late summer and very similar to the Orbx TE Washington scenery. The Bing map in satellite view is greener. It looks like the imaging was done in late Spring or early Summer, before everything dried out completely. Given a choice, I'd take the Bing maps version of the ground color for the whole year, even if it doesn't dynamically change with the seasons.

Nobody forced you to pay that. I could tell you about how i invested in the Milviz Ka350i when it was being developed for FSX and how many years i had to wait it until i switched simulator too.
The point however stands in the fact that what xEnviro achieve in the CURRENT flight simulators is barely found anywhere else, and 100% not found in XP/P3D/FSX.
Competition will surely be good, i have no doubt about that.

While i am not a parrot i will try to repeat myself. From how i see it you were bashing people on the .org site. All i am saying is that this type of word not allowed (which you might have seen on the org) is the same that can be found on avsim too from some people, and it's never a good thing. Furthemore i also pointed out how your post added no value to the discussion at hand here, which is Dynamic seasons and what xEnviro managed to do with a shader based approach.

Hope this clears it up.

You didn't. Pointing out that people on XP.org are bashing MSFS (which they are, saying things like MSFS is going to use 25 year old flight physics and is going to be online-only) is not the same as bashing XPlane itself.

More on topic, I think what xEnviro has managed to do is really impressive for a single person, and hopefully Asobo can take inspiration from some of the methods it uses to create more accurate weather.

It is a nice demo indeed, but I don't think that industry experts need us to teach them how to do their stuff.

Ok... the phrase "25 year old flight physics" is hilarious.

I do not believe the mathematics of flight has changed in over 25 years.... even blade element theory is from the 1800's... so... not sure why someone thinks the age of a mathematical approach is something to sneer at. LOL

Do understand your point, the thing is you could have just said that XE isn't worth it.  You are not alone who has it.  I don't own it though but some i know do.

I find XE an evolving platform just a bit too early on volumetric clouds that hampers performance.

Competition is always good but people don't realize what that competitor has and they comment or post anything.

Anyway let the thread not get out of hand lets all stick to the OP's topic.

Asobo could do way better IMO.  xEnviro is like one guy coding out of the basement. The 70 dollar price for the plugin is quite unbelievable. It's only part finished and has only one cloud layer.

Asobo's engine is more advanced than XP11's thus technically it is possible to go beyond XE. Also Asobo code for their engine and not someone else's engine for which they have limited access.

Speaking of "part finished", well this is the business model of X-Plane since i knew it. It was never a completed product upon its launch. However, XP11 was way more comprehensive in V1 compared to XP10 V1.

I am curious how they will handle the photogrammetry trees.  It seems those will be difficult to remove leaves from...then again maybe with seasons on, those trees would turn to autogen? Seems like there would be a solution.

If I understand the information we’ve been given so far, the trees are generated procedurally. The only information downloaded will be placement and general type of tree to draw (i.e., which procedure to follow). So it should be a piece of cake to generate any type of tree you want. Thus, a relatively simple approach would be to consult the date of the flight and then via a small look up table, draw trees of appropriate shade, or even without leaves for deciduous species. Snow effects could also be added. The challenge I think would be to blend changes geographically so as to avoid sudden sharp changes through the latitudinal dimension.

I should add that this opens up exciting possibilities for third party publishers if access to the procedures is made available. Remember the world showcase video where they said every blade of grass is drawn procedurally? Imagine buying a foliage addon where more effort has been given to vary how the grass is drawn, for instance adding random weeds, etc. Lots of tinkering could be done there to great effect.
