PMDG 737NGXu First Impressions and Review!

You don't even need to make a separate panel save, but you can save the whole scenario via P3D. That way it makes it so much easier to load up and pick up at exact point and configuration you left it.

PMDG aren't recommending this though because it can break the aircraft and you'd have to restart the whole sim. They recommend to leave their aircraft out of everything which involves saving or reloading within P3D.

Just checking...

"This product uses a full virtual cockpit and does not include 2D panels. (Some pop-up functions avail.)"

The NGXu does have pop out (2D) PFD ND's etc?

Yes, everything pops out the same as the NGX with the addition of both EFB's!!

Should I understand this to mean the EFB can be popped out and moved to a second monitor and resized. I have vision issues and would find this a GREAT help.

Thanks!

Yes, that's correct - the same as the PFD etc on the NGX! Click on the frame, right click on the pop up and select un-dock, then it can

be moved to another screen and re-sized.

Speaking of the EFB ... is this supported by SimServer (FlightSim apps) on android devices ... I guess I should try, I have an EFB license but not sure if that covered or worked with NGXu.

Cheers, Rob.

Although I don’t know 100%, i’ve been checking this out this evening and have only found references to the 747-8 and qw787 being supported.

If not available now, I’m pretty sure they’ll be sorting it soon. NGXu CDU and overhead support is pretty recent, and i’m sure that took priority.

Like you, I’d really like to try the NGXu EFB on a touchscreen (iPad pro) - think it would work great.

How does it break the aircraft? PMDG planes are actually one of the few that load perfectly without any glitches and misconfiguration.

I think if you load a new default scenario with the ngx and then load a saved scenario I believe everything should initialize properly every single time.

All I do is save the flight when I'm ready to exit. When I want to do next leg, I just boot up sim, press load, select flight (and occasionally modify flight time and date)and then press fly. Easy as that. There are no hoops to jump through. Every PMDG aircraft I own works very well this way.

Well After a full fresh install of P3D, last night I bought the NGu.

All I did was set up panel state, performance and Chaseplane views at Orbx EGNX (my home airport IRL)

First thought? Stunning VC and the model with PBR is also stunning, it really does "feel" like a new aircraft from the old NG. The VC "feels" very different.

Performance is not as good but really no surprise really. FPS seem the same as the FSL A320.

I loaded at night time with all DL on at the airport with 8xMSAA and the aircraft and airport looked breathtaking. having dome light/all VC lights on and all taxi/landing light etc turned on made no difference to FPS, that was a surprise.

So next time i will put headset on to hear the new sounds and take her for a flight.EGNX to EIDW and return flight with Ryanair day and night  flights methinks.

Having bought MK EIDW I now think the only airport i will buy at some point is the new Geneva and them am done till MSFS

You must have a super powerful system.  I have to admit I had lower FPS in the VC at night with landing lights, taxi lights, and the lights for the Primary Flight Display bringing my system (see specs in signature) down to single digits and fps in the teens but this was at Reagan National with DD Washington X (FPS started at 40-50 FPS).  Later I went to the default flight location in Florida and ran the same scenario at night and things got a little better:

After loading, 52-70.

Turn on AFDS Flood and Background for PFD - 29-60 (mostly around 60).

Dome, landing, taxi, right/left turnoff - down to 15-20

Logo, anti-collision, wing well lights - 15-20 (if I looked down at the throttle) 8.6 -10 if looking at these switches in the overhead.

As you can see, the fps got worse as I turned on more lights in the VC (lights externally are 75-100 fps).  My issues are in the VC only.  Still these figures were a little better than when I tested earlier at KDCA and Wash X.

Later, I loaded the QW787 and ran the same scenario with all of the lights at night and had fps from 50-60 (slightly worse than the 737) and, with all lights on and looking down at the throttle - 20-30 (mostly 30) FPS.  Lookup up at the overhead - 15- 20 fps.  Much, much better than the 737NGXu.  So improvements can be made.

My P3D settings are not that high.  The first page is maxed like you have.  The terrain settings are max.  Shadows are low and just for the aircraft - no cloud shadows, no autogen,

I do not like flying at night and was only doing some testing for others who had privately contacted me.  For me, even if the fps are at 8.6, the 737NGXu is surprisingly smooth with no noticeable stutters or other anomalies.  Once I take off, things get better.  I have found that the view in the VC increases or decreases fps, sometimes dramatically.  In any case, like I have always done in the past, I don't get hooked on fps and get worried about performance. I think PMDG and the beta testers did a great job.  If the aircraft runs smoothly, that's good enough for me.  It's a fun aircraft to fly and enjoy.

Best regards,

Jim

Any reviews on the recent update?

Heard the DL performance has been improved?

Strange Jim.

Still not bought a new PC. So my PC is 5 years old now see Sig below.

What I find is with my FPS test, sat on Runway 28 at ORBX EGNX with there OLC HD tree's. FPS around 35ish.

With night setting 8xMSAA even sitting at Simwings EGLL with DL on for all airport and aircraft, ALL VC lights on and all taxi/landing lights, you name them there on FPS are still sat at my locked 26 (25.95)

So I find after a clean new install of 4.5 in the Ngu FPS are not high but i can run my locked 26FPS day or night np. I still have Auto gen veg set to max as I see no FPS for having it there.

Dome light on low or bright also makes no difference. Why? I have no idea.

I do Have the EFB turned off since I use an iPad all VC screens refresh rates set to 4 fps 2D PDF set to 26 ND set to 12 others set to 4.

Good to hear from you Jim,

Take care.
