9 cities X019

If I'm going to be critical here, the draw distance on the photogrammetry seems to be fairly limited at several points in this video.

Yet, at other times, we've seen it extend much further. I have to wonder whether it was a internet connection limitation throttling the quality since it's supposed to dynamically adjust or if certain areas have lesser draw distance than others for whatever reason.

The pop-in is very noticeable as well, but I assume they'll implement alpha-fade for LOD adjustments at some point.

I realize the photogrammetry is their shock and awe right now, but I'd like to see more from the regular areas.

So you don't think they didn't just run out of photogrammetry? Yes I agree though, I think Copenhagen was one such city which seemed to have its draw distance culled showing what appears to be blurrey textures (relatively speaking). I also noticed some popping as well. But hey we have the gorgeous italian cities to make things right! I'm not at all disappointed, I mean the amount of content here is staggering and much of it really amazing to fly over, with any of the superb looking aircraft!

This is unbelievable. Those are graphics I expected in 2030 not 2020

The Naples coast looked amazing.

The morphing buildings/objects at a very close distance are bit disturbing. Hope we don't get the old FS style morphing mountains!

Amazing to see Copenhagen (my home town). Can't wait for this.

If you notice in Barcelona also, at the harbour, you can see the photogrammetry struggling with the harbour cranes and containers on the ground popping quite visibly. Of course it's a minor thing compared to what the overall visual quality is, but this time i noticed.

Finally happy to see Italy looking like Italy. Not something third parties have ever achieved during the years.

Me too but lets enjoy it one mouthful at a time. We see things at last, cities and landscapes, that are not the PNW  😉. I lived on the West coast and love to fly there but come on, there is a world outside.

And beautifully done.  Italy, France ! Looking forward to Greece and her islands. And Japan. Countries for which Orbx has shown zero interest !

Yep. Probably will be hand made at some point. Photogrammetry has it’s good and bad things.

It looks exceptional but the FSX-esque terrain rendering and the popping of objects is very noticeable in some scenes. Hopefully they manage to smooth that out, make the transitions less noticeable.

Yes popping was clearly noticeable this time, this wasn't the case before (at least not at this level). Chances are they are working on performance optimizations for the first tech alpha release and that this is a byproduct of these optimizations. The blurry background and lower drawing distance could also be a product of testing on lower end hardware. And maybe they are slowly letting us get used to how things will look on lower to medium end hardware instead of on high end hardware 😉 . It might even have to do with getting the sim to run on computers with less than 32GB of RAM or on slower internet connections, they need to work on these and test these scenario's for the tech alpha releases also.

Absolutely, I agree. I'm not too worried at this stage, as I'm sure they are well-aware and it will be improved. The optimization efforts, which those things would include, are usually done towards the end of development, when every other bit of code is set in stone. Though I would confess myself slightly disappointed if it made it to release, as it is very jarring to look at in some scenes but we'll see. In any case, people are sure to let them know in the upcoming tech alphas 😄

I'd like to see some of the "1.5 million cities" (to quote Jorg Neumann is his IGN interview yesterday) that don't have photogrammetry. After all, those 1.5 million cities probably cover 95% of the world's population yet MS is only showing us the photogrammetry stuff. I am not taking anything away from how amazing they look but please MS, can you reset expectations a little bit and show how most MOST of the world is going to really look like??

This way expectations will ruin the game. They have to show some areas where there isn't photogrammetry/very high resolution sattelite imagery
