I Predict We'll Buy XBOXs to Run MSFS 2020

Yeah, a PC with at least AMDs new equivelent to the RTX2080Ti, 32GB of Ram, a 16 core/32 Thread 4GHz CPU and a 2TB SSD

Everyone who doesnt own that already by release day is likely going to be buying an XBOX and Gamepass.

Meanwhile they're saying that a GTX 1060 can run the game just fine at 1080p, and the Global Preview event computers were equipped with an i7 8700K that the Ryzen 5 3600X can match. No, you won't need a bleeding-edge rig to run the game and have it look good.

You say this as if you actually know what you're talking about! It would be madness to design the sim for a spec of PC that only a couple of percent of your target audience would own. Speculate away, but lets be clear that that's all you're doing.

This mSparks is a troll, don't feed him. He is going around all fora to fight MSFS just for fun. A lot of people already have him on the ignore list.

Kind regards, Michael

agreed.

those cheaper models for the cheapskates I mentioned. Coming later.

I could defiantly see my self buying this on an Xbox and using it for casual flights.

Me too....and that would be a great portable system for the TT, or cottage!  I'm in!

Don't forget that, even if the next Xbox would have exactly the *same* identical hardware of a PC, it will perform better, because:

- The Xbox OS is a custom version of Windows 10, in which everything from thread scheduling, timers, time slicing, latency, is optimized for games.

- There aren't any background services running on Xbox other than the ones strictly necessary for gaming.

- There's no antivirus/firewall taking away cpu cycles when the game is running

- Memory bandwidth on the Xbox is *way* higher than on a PC.

On PC, the best DDR4 usually peak at 60-70 GB/s:

https://www.techspot.com/news/62129-ddr3-vs-ddr4-raw-bandwidth-numbers.html

The *original* Xbox One that came in 2013, had 68 GB/s on the main ram, with a 32MB buffer of static ram running at 102 GB/s

The *current* Xbox One X doesn't use the separate buffer anymore, and with GDDR5 clocked at 6.8 ghz, it has 326 GB/s of bandwidth.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/11992/the-xbox-one-x-review/3

There are no details about the next "Series X" Xbox which has been just announced, but I would expect it to be even higher.

Considering I've already noticed a measurable increase in fps just by going from 2133 DDR4 to 3000 DDR4, with Prepar3D

I'd say the fast memory bandwidth on the Xbox should be very useful in a Flight simulator, where there are so many things not stricly related to graphic only going on, like flight model, weather, terrain collision handling, ground handling, etc.

The flip side to that is the Xbox likely shares that RAM between the CPU and GPU which, while also beneficial for performance in some areas, could mean the Xbox may not be able to handle the highest settings at 4k resolutions. A PC, on the other hand, has separate and dedicated RAM for both the CPU and GPU. Will be interesting to see how the sim runs on the Xbox.

Let's remember one important fact: However the new Xbox compares to a higher-end gaming PC the day the console is released, the hardware spec will be frozen in amber for years until the next console generation. Meanwhile, the exemplar of a "higher-end gaming PC' will continue to advance in speed and capabilities.

I'm sure MS/ASOBO is taking this into account just like every flight sim developer does, designing features that can take advantage of the steady progress in PC performance and not locking everything down to what a particular Xbox console generation can handle. This is bound to be especially true for Microsoft, because they need to give consumers a reason to buy the next console generation after the current one.

He knows all this already, it's been pointed out to him repeatedly, he is just a troll, although i  haven't put him on ignore, I just ignore what he says.

Or maybe they have gone with the "series" naming.

because the year after next there will be XBOX2021

You sell a new console generation by making it significantly better than the previous one so the consumer can justify the cost. That can't be done with yearly redesigns. There's a reason game consoles are referred to with the "generation" adjective.

A new console design every year would also eliminate the reason manufacturers like Sony and Microsoft can pack quite a lot of power into these things at a reasonable cost. They get huge discounts on the components from their suppliers because they're ordering the exact same parts over the lifetime of a console generation. You might see one minor upgrade during the cycle like MS has done with Xbox, but yearly re-designs aren't likely.

Last XBOX consoles were released

August 2, 2016 (XBOX2016)

November 7, 2017 (XBOX2017)

May 7, 2019 (XBOX2019)

Next due summer 2020 (XBOX2020)

Why do you think they stop that cycle next year?

Xbox One, One S, and One X are all the same hardware generation with relatively minor upgrades (GPU for the One S, and GPU and a CPU/RAM upgrade for the One X). If you had an Xbox One, there was no major incentive to buy the console again unless you really needed 4K video.

The one due next year is the next generation console design, promising a major leap in performance, not an incremental improvement over the current one.

The point here, is that consoles can never match the incremental upgrades you can get on a PC over time. They're locked into ratchet step upgrades, contingent on supplier component discounts. Whereas, if you're using a PC, you can buy the next hot Nvidia or AMD GPU as soon as it hits the shelves (if you can afford it). That GPU in a PC will be faster than whatever is in the console released the year before, and the gap widens over the life cycle of the console.

Because there hasn't really been any innovation in hardware for 10 years, not because they didnt want to, XBOX2016 came with basically the equivalent of a GTX1060, before AMD, CPUs are still all in the same ballpark as way back in 2012, moores law ended.

Will XBOX2020 have smart features that spy on us? Will everyone worldwide laugh at our poor landings even though its a small runway hidden away in the Northwest Territories? My plan is to go VR and hide my face!

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

Windows 10. Make up your own mind 😛 Personally hoping someone works out how to install Linux on it, 100% I buy one if they do..
