P3D V4.5 settings and Scenery

Once its loaded. Don't know why P3D starts using 100% of Core 0 but it literally takes me 10 seconds to do. Not a biggie....

This topic came up a while ago and was debated ad nauseum.  But the truth is in the outcome and it's a fascinating discovery.  I tried this myself w/ my old 3930K but while I got the work apparently spread over all 6 cores in the end HT enabled w/ AM=4084 was the best initial load time as well as runtime performance, despite what the CPU utilization monitor was showing.

I would be more interested in cpu temps before and after..

Heat is the enemy, rather than core utilization..

Bert, but heat in many cases is a derivative of the cooling system I'm using. There are too many factors here. B777ER wants to distribute the load more evenly between all P3D engaged cores, which doesn't hurt in any heat scenario.

For what it matters my own results sitting in a running FSL A320 (no AI traffic) show that the "voodoo" method pushes the main load from Core 0 down below (to Core 3). I can't say that it distributes more evenly between the cores. My observations rather show that it hands off the load from Core 0 to Core 3. I'm using Afterburner with RTSS to show % load for every core on the OSD. Now the main stress is on Core 5, back to Core 4 etc. No conclusive results, alas. But it may also be FSL A320 - related as the plane lives on its own.. Will need to play more with this.

Thanks.

PS: now it is back to Core 0 then jumps to Core 3 etc. ))

I trust 100% B777ER's observations though. Even if his method doesn't work for me.

This not only sounds like Voodoo.. it IS Voodoo..

Don't you think that LM would have changed this if there were a benefit...?

Yes, I would. 😀

Actually in my case no matter how I press/or not press on Prepar3d.exe Affinity button in task manager, the load jumps all over the cores on its own.

Thanks.

Voodoo..

I've tried is several times.  After P3Dv4 was released, with my 4790K HT On.  With my current 8086K with HT on @ 5.3GHz and HT Off @ 5.4Ghz.  In all configs I always get the blurries.  Must be something to do with addons/sim config/OS config and probably hardware config mixed in as well.  I never get the blurries otherwise, so I stay away from the Voodoo.

I've been running HT on and AM=3 which is one core 2 LPs.

With stock sim and medium to high settings, I see no blurries. So HT and AM don't cause blurriness. Those chasing different AMs and HT on/off are on the wrong trail.

Here AM 340 on 9980XE HT enabled with 2080ti P3D v4.5

Stock sim (i'm testing so I don't want some addon to mess me around):

That's a video from my old phone handheld. True multi-tasking software being tested and no stutter or blurries.

Now that's Voodoo.

Several folk I helped out last year and already one this year have completely reinstalled P3D and lost the blurry effects. I suggest not listening to those guys spreading FUD (fear uncertainty and doubt) about AMs, HT, and other general yawn-fest subjects. Problems I find, are caused by too high settings, tweaks like FFTF scenery weather and texture, and any kind of software is built into addons these days through .NET.

I have my sim now settled and as Steve said (several hundred times...), it is all about settings. The only thing I am still struggling is the bad performance in bad weather and/or night time with dynamic lighting. To me, the only really good looking antialiasing is SSAA, but the performance suffers that much when using SSAA in bad weather and/or night time that I now started to use 8xMSAA instead. But the shimmering with 8xMSAA especially for PBR surfaces etc. is just hardly acceptable, I would love to globally use 4xSSAA instead, but I guess I will need the RTX-3080Ti for this...

Here with 4K I use FXAA + 4x MSAA + 4x AF and everything looks good.

A little shimmering in the far distance is even more real and like reality.  Look in real life at the tarmac in the distance when the sun is shining on it . Shimmering ...

Yes, I can easily accept the shimmering in night time in the distance, as this is actually more "real" than crisp and clear picture. During day, the shimmering mainly annoys me for the AI traffic, certain airline paints with stripes etc. just result in really ugly shimmering, and also sometimes the trees are ugly from medium distance.

In 4K, you might be less prone for shimmering in general, I use 1440p and it is still pretty prominent. FXAA makes the VC text and displays fuzzy and blurry, not really nice on 1440p.

However, I could slightly improve things using the novel nVIDIA image sharpening, but still 4xSSAA would be the perfect setting.
