FEATURE DISCOVERY SERIES

  • EPISODE 5 IS HERE!

We are pleased to announce the fifth episode in our Feature Discovery Series has been released! Episode 5 features an in-depth look at how we approach audio for the next iteration of Microsoft Flight Simulator.  Head into the Insider Area to watch Episode 5!

TECH ALPHA 1 – WAVE 2 INVITES

We are still in the process of sending out wave 2 invites for Tech Alpha 1. This process will be completed by the end of day (PST time) on 01.17.

UPDATE – TECH ALPHA 2 name change to ALPHA

Please note that we have made a name change from “TECH ALPHA 2” to “ALPHA”. This will help avoid any naming confusion with Tech Alpha 1 AND is a more accurately aligned with the state of the build.

ALPHA (formerly known as TECH ALPHA 2)  – PREPARING FOR RELEASE

  • 01.20 – Begin sending Alpha  invitations.
  • 01.27 – All Alpha invitations sent.
  • 01.27 – Alpha ready for download, begin sending build access emails.
  • 01.31 – All wave 1 Alpha emails sent.

As a reminder, if you are already participating in Tech Alpha 1 testing, you will automatically be granted access to Tech Alpha 2.

SDK UPDATE

After a ton of hard work over the past few months we are happy to announce that an alpha version of the SDK will be available in the upcoming ALPHA release!

Only 3rd party development partners will have access to the SDK in which they will be able to create and edit airports, sceneries, planes and missions.

The SDK makes available the same in-game tools used internally for the development of the core simulator. We can’t wait to see what our 3rd parties and Content Creators create based on the samples we’re providing!

We still have plenty of work ahead and we are looking forward to the feedback we receive over the next few weeks.

If you are a 3rd party developer and have not been in contact with the team, please send an email to [email protected] for more information.

So they are still sending out invites which is good to hear and basically changed the name to Alpha for everything.

Count six months from the alpha SDK being available lol

Or this might be the last alpha iteration to be released for the Tech Alpha initiative, with only minor patches from now on and not full builds. Looks like this one is going to have lots of waves...

I am really hoping to get in lol, been stalking my email.

The plan is for everyone who signed up to get in eventually, though the process seems to have been changed now. In the FAQ it was hinted that testers would be testing different builds in groups, but now it seems they will be pushing everyone into the same build, removing different builds and replacing them with participation waves. I sure hope they've pushed enough optimisation in to allow more testers with mainstream systems.

Regarding the update, it seems that the Partnership Announcement Series update was replaced with an SDK update, and we also got a media update which wasn't in the schedule. A welcome change for sure. The new screenshots really do align with the footage we've been shown so far, and show that this is possible on today's hardware. Looking at the new episode now, loving the footage of the recording process.

OK, I'm just floored. The environmental and weather sounds are just incredible. Unbelievable. They've done some splendid work on all the details.

One thing I noticed is that this C172 which now boasts accurate recordings of its real-life counterpart sounds extremely similar to the old FS2002/2004/X version. I always thought they used generic audio for that, considering some of the C172 add-ons sound radically different. Interesting.

What do I need to do get Tech Alpha 2 access...Do I need to #$@#$@#$@#$?, sure I can dance also lol.....ahem ahem...seriously.....I have the hardware, my dxdiag went to you guys as soon as the site went live.  I have a 6 -- 28inch 4K monitor (yes 6 monitors) wall and on top VR etc.

Holy schnikes! That video at 9:00 when he's changing the windspeed. The difference with the waves in the water! Oh my goodness! The ambient sounds for night vs day. So much goodness going on here. I cannot wait to sample some of this myself. I need to get into the Alpha!
