Pass time?

Featured Replies

I have totally given up on beta testing program with being selected before the official release but the question I have is to all is what games are you playing to pass the time before you can get your hands on MS flight simulator? for me its Farming Simulator 19 and its a lot of fun

Since this discussion is more inclined to be about something "other" than Simzilla, This is the proper forum for it!

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

I'm like andyjohnston.  I see no good reason to give up flight simming due to a few videos and screen shots from a proposed flight sim.  A decade of watching real life videos and viewing real life pictures didn't stop me either.

Fsx and xplane 11

Lordy Casualcas, if you're still on FSX then XPlane 11 must look incredible by comparison.

I think you'd be surprised at how much improvement there is in P3Dv4.  Probably a little late in the game for that if you intend to switch to MSFS later this year. 😄

I know, but there are just so many things in fsx I miss.

Lol, believe it or not I’m still on FSX and haven’t even tried any newer sims since I’ve been holding out for something like a final version of P3D or something to show up. Low and behold MS2020 showed up on the radar so that will be my next move. Frankly now I’m glad I saved all the time and money moving from P3D version to P3D version.

Truth be told, I haven’t even flown in FSX since Nov 2018 after my Hotas Warthog throttle stopped working and I’ve been too lazy to send them 40 euros for a replacement motherboard to fix it. I actually tried to fly just using the stick and plus and minus keys for throttle control but hated it, not enough feel.

Not into games so I go running when I get home. Usually 5-10 miles a night. Between warm up, the run, and cool down, stretching, foam rolling, it occupies a hour to an hour and a half per night. All I have time for after that is eating, some relaxing, watch some TV, read/mod Avsim and lights out. Time passes quickly, plus you get in great shape 😂😂

(full disclosure - I’m a competitive runner anyway) 🏃

American Truck Simulator and/or European Truck Simulator. I did go through a Farming Simulator phase as well. Truck Sims are well worth checking out because the trucks are customizable, and you can buy additional scenery as you go, similar enough to Flight Sims but much easier and intuitive.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Who said that flying a sim was exclusive from playing another game ? Not me.

Truck Simulator is nice practice for road positioning. It tries to catch you out and keeps you focussed on the road ahead and makes you aware of what's coming up behind as well. So is a reasonable training aid.

However, if I play other games I begin to ask myself why I'm doing it, when I never feel that way in P3D or FSX.

Lots of guys still run FSX as it is hard to beat.

I used to like Harrier AV8B where I could arrange the missions to deplete the island defences, and fly in after radars have been cleaned up.

Believe it or not, I have actually used those truck simulator programs to practice reversing articulated stuff for when I had to learn how to do it with the vehicles at the airport for my job.

If you're not used to reversing or maneuvering stuff which is articulated (which I wasn't) it can really help you get your head around which way you steer in order to get stuff where you want it to go. Anyone who has ever towed or reversed four of the massive (and very wide) trailers which PMC aircraft cargo pallets fit onto will know that getting those things through tight gaps can be tricky when you are trying to avoid smacking into an aeroplane. In fact, our company won't even let new drivers go anywhere near an aircraft with those things until they have loads of hours logged just driving smaller stuff about.

Often the ramp at an airport is littered with equipment. The various service agent companies are typically assigned bays where they are supposed to keep their stuff, but people leave stuff all over the place and don't always park it up neatly, so if you have to reverse a set of aircraft steps or a GPU or something into a tight spot, it helps to know how to get that thing in the right place without smashing it into other stuff, because if you do hit anything, they will take your driving permit off you.

I found out to my dismay once just how tricky it can be when I had to park an air start unit on stand 101 at EGCC which was being used to store lots of gear. Air start units are big and they weigh a lot, plus don't always have the best articulation on their towbar, especially ones which have more of a trike wheel arrangement as many of them do, since there is loads of weight on the wheel which steers the trailer. I cheerfully drove around a massive section where loads of equipment was stored towing one of these, thinking it was the best way to get to where there was a vacant spot which I could drive the thing straight into and then unhitch it, only to find that I had driven up into a cul-de-sac through several very tight curves with equipment either side. This meant I had to reverse the thing through a load of really tight curves without hitting any equipment. To my surprise, I actually managed to do it fairly easily (even though it is not easy) and I'm pretty sure it was down to having reversed a load of trailers on Truck simulator, since part of that sim is to get your load into a specific place before it lets you complete the job.
