Weather control in P3Dv5

Featured Replies

Stephen at OpusFSI posted about some weather injection problems in the P3D SDK forum--he says that there is a bug in P3Dv5 that prevents wind direction at altitude injected into the sim from being acted on.  Also, he says that when surface winds are updated, they are intermittently cycling to a continuous slow shift from the last wind to the new target without ever reaching the new target direction.  And apparently each time weather at a wx station is changed, even one distant enough to be over the visible horizon, the sky/clouds flicker.  LM has not answered his concerns there.

I'm also wondering why we haven't seen a beta for ActiveSky--usually those guys are right there when a new version releases, since they are on the LM beta team and presumably have been working it all along.  Damian has posted a "we're working on it" statement on the HiFisim forum, but there's not much in the way of specifics there.

Hope this gets sorted quickly...spiffy TrueSky clouds don't do much if there's no reliable mechanism available to control the wx.  This is the long pole in the tent right now for me--just can't see going back to the days of wind shifts and flaky wx.

No weather, no aviation!

In jurisprudence, there is a principle - you look for the person who benefits.

Does that only apply to Truesky? Is the weather injection by REX Skyforce with default skies just an illusion?

It is my understanding that v5 betas were being tested as soon as the night before release. Considering the major change in the sky, I'm not surprised that they weren't able to release on P3D v5 release day. And apparently, even the LM coders got it wrong.

FWIW someone suggested FSXWX elsewhere and that's working for me, though I haven't checked winds aloft.  Will do that later.  it is free and easy to get going with just the new FSUIPC 6 free version and the FSXSp2 simconnect module included in the redist folder with P3Dv5. Was painless to get going for the short term.  Others have said rex works - I don't have that as an AS user, though, so haven't tested it.  BTW, it does inject the weather for both enhanced atmospherics and the old school atmospherics.

Eagerly awaiting a statement from Hifi on this! desperately more like lol

Another proof that the release of v5 was rushed. For the obvious reasons though.

Interesting about FSXWX. I'll have to give that a go.

Not prepared for real weather. They think that we are flying in the room))

I am impressed HiFi does not already have a P3Dv5 version of Active Sky. I suppose they knew about v5 for a long time now and they would have a product ready for release.

It's working but the winds are out of control. Its shifts in two directions every five seconds instantly during injections.

So probably will be another 1-2 weeks like I expected at the minimum for Active Sky

It’s working pretty well but winds are doing crazy thing and the planes don’t like how the wind is injected... but mays be that’s because of LM bug..

What kind of software release process is this? So they haven't tested their SDK?

As a senior software engineer, we normally encourage public betas - > release candidate and then the final version. Now I have the perception the version we have in hand, is actually a beta version more or less that needs tweaking.

Well that's correct they even call it in the gui beta 😉
