Potential (and required) Hotfix for V5

Featured Replies

While we are all waiting for LM to address some issues regarding DX12 (as noted by Majestic), the excessive VRAM usage and other issues related to  TrueSky implementation, I'm not sure we will see any ActiveSky , REX or PMDG until after the Hotfix has been released.  Majestic have noted that they won't release their update until such time as a Hotfix addresses the DX12 issues.

Not everyone will be, but I'm mostly grounded until then.  Currently just installing scenery and having a general look around. But even with all these issues outstanding, i'm liking what I'm seeing.

I like what I'm seeing also.  The bulk of my scenery is installed and in good working order.  I've had zero problems with the vram crashes that others have.  But I also haven't tried to use any payware airplanes or AI.  So the jury is out.  But my V4.5 remains in service as I patiently wait for the planes to show up.  I'm ok with that.

I'm also very impressed with v5, especially after a bit of tweaking. I've luckily not been hit with the massive issues others have. Only problem is, I don't really have anything to fly. I'd like to stick to natively compatibible addons, with actual v5 installers etc. not some botched "just drag it into the folder, seems to work, except X and Y feature". So that might leave me out of it until a hotfix it seems. Luckily I have so much else going on right that that I don't even have time to fly proper.

I am more than happy to wait my big fear is that for VR I will require a 11Gig .I can manage mostly on 1080p and 1024  textures on desktop but VR is mu  main usecase.I have a new RTX 2080 installed at the moment and will be stuck with a system I cannot use . I am looking and could sell my 2080 at a big loss and get a refurbed 1080ti,  2080 ti  are still ridiculous money.

Fingers crossed LM can pull a miracle out of the hat but there are limits with the DX12 engine . Performance is great though.

we are pretty close to the 3080 ti and family.  Even if you don't get one of those the 2080ti prices will come way down.

Yes realse this paid nearly £800 for my 2080 a few months back could not justify at the time the 2080TI and was advised against it by everyone I spoke to.

I am quite impressed by this slow-down after V5 release. I am wondering what is the purpose of developers being included in the LM beta for "a long time" as it has been noted. LM has said they worked together with developers. I tend to believe that most developers did not want to lose time working with the betas and decided to wait until LM releases the final version to start working on it. Otherwise these issues should have been reported before the final release. Except the developers had been talking to LM about these issues and LM didn't do anything until now. Who knows.

I don't think that is how it works at all. I am not and have never been a beta tester for any simulator.

However, common sense would suggest that by definition, each beta update will be different and may fix one thing and break another.

We have all seen this in updates to RTM versions of everything, even Windows itself.

It would logically therefore make sense to wait for the final release version before releasing any definitive statements on compatibility, or even spending a great deal of time on fixing something for one beta, only to have it broken by the next.

I would agree that given the much needed update, developers of some products may well find that a wait and see approach is the best one.

It has been noted by testers and developers that they asked LM to hold off on release until basic issues were sorted out.  I guess there were internal pressures to release on the due date for whatever reason.  It doesn't really matter.  In fact, it's  probably better for us this way,  as we get to see it, experience it,  and report any other issues which we may find.   You could still use your 4.5 installation which you didn't have to uninstall. So in theory, nobody is really a loser here.   Impulsiveness is another issue entirely

A bit off topic, but I wouldn't count on 2080ti prices coming down. Nvidia usually restricts supply of current gpu chips before their next card is available to buy. When the 2080 range was launched with its massive price hike, the 1080ti was already in short supply and selling at fast increasing prices.

Seems to be happening with intel too. Prices of i9 9900 going up and stocks reducing before new i10 chips are released. Some of this probably due to the virus, but it's becoming a regular habit.

The previous gen card prices never go way down, ever. The retailers sell off the stock at maybe a 2% reduction and then thats it.

I haven't had a card that wasn't used for 20 years.  I realize there is a risk however.  Though it does seem the bitcoin thing is on the way out.

I'm surprised to hear this as there are parallel threads stating the due to changes LM did in the default airports there are elevation and bleeding scenery issues after installing 3rd party airports.

This is actually encouraging since the addons compatibility is what is keeping me in v4.5.
