Unfortunately, although it works well in P3D v4, for some reason, it just disappears if I try to start it for P3D v5.

AS uses “hooks” to target parts of the P3D exe to be able to do what it does since the P3D SDK Is not fully complete, so ActiveSky programmers have to go in the back door to manipulate the weather engine.

That is a high level overview on what AS does...I’m not a programmer, so don’t ask me details!  😀

Whenever P3D is updated by LM, the exe changes, as do the hook addresses, and ActiveSky and any other program that uses dlls to manipulate the program have to be updated.  That’s the price of a program (P3D) that is updated unlike the old FSX.

However, I have not updated to "HF3" from "HF2" and yet ASP3D is working in it.

Ironically, I have updated P3D v5 to "HF1" and it does not work, however, as it closes as soon as I click on "V5", it seems unlikely that it has time to even look and see what version anything might be.

Things may still work, doesn’t mean everything is working correctly.

things that the SDK controls may work fine, the “hooks”  may not all work

Possibly not, though the "hook" argument seems not to be the case. Previous P3D updates have resulted in a message along the lines of "Active Sky cannot work with this version". However I would prefer it to work in P3D v5, I already have Active Sky for P3D v4 and do not need two.

Thanks for confirming, but I will go ahead an update just the client. All my important add-ons have been updated so there should not be any harm.

BTW, I think we need a P3D v5 forum. There are too many threads intertwined causing confusion. Plus, I'm seeing more threads on v5 and v4.5 threads are getting lost.

Maybe a P3D legacy & P3D v5 forum. Bob, please make this happen.

Cloud injection would probably work. I know the hooks are used for winds aloft, so even though ASPD3 might be creating clouds and (perhaps) surface METAR in P3D 4.5HF2, you might find that upper winds and possibly temperatures are not being injected.

Yes. It was just an aside, not a recommendation. As before, I already have Active Sky for P3D v4 and oddly, that does not work in P3D v5.

Yep..that's what I am doing...but I did use (or tried to) the license that activated my P3D AS v4...so it should work.  I ticketed them...so will have to wait and see.  While that is happening, I am installing T.E. Southern California within  XP11.41...and can't wait to hover over my old house on Densmore Ave, in Van Nuys...hover over Zuma Beach...(my juvenile and teenage years, surfing, and chasing girls!)...can't wait...Friday afternoon, IS BOOKED!   Half way through the download, lol!

The serial is not the problem. It's the order number they are asking for. If that's from a no longer existing shop the registration doesn't work. It also doesn't work with pcaviator which is still in business. I have an order confirmation from this store which is not accepted at HiFi and which doesn't even show up in my pcaviator account. One lesson learned, never buy anything from a reseller.

 

I bought mine from PCA and the upgrade worked fine.
