747 V5 is out

Featured Replies

Is it just me or do the wing physics look pretty much like they did in the previous version.  I was expecting more of a fluid motion (much like the 737NGXu) which looks realistic.    I haven't flown through any chop yet, but the wing physics on the ground look much the same as the did before.

Wanted to add a few things to my original post. I am recreating the test flight from last night, just with the current weather. There were 2 things I forgot to mention in my post, and I noticed them during my initial setup.

1. The CDU blacks out for a sec every time I select anything.

2. Flight plans imported to the CDU from simbrief (I dont know about others), does not show the actual route. It will load the departure and arrival cities, and nothing more.

Currently boarding for the retest. Will post if anything changes. But so far the FPS are the exact same as last night, even though today it is partly cloudy.

Also, anyone figure out the RAAS issue yet? Didn't see much on their forum, for recent posts, so was hesitant to post there.

Have not had those issues.  Doing a full first flight today.

Are you directing your flightplan from Simbrief to the correct V5 folder

I have the Cdu issue also, the flight only loads if you choose it as company route

Yes. The CDU sees the flight plan, but will not load the actual plan, just the dep and arr airports.

I've never done that before. Assuming this 2nd test flight goes well, I will try to figure it out. Thanks for the tip.

Under co route just type the route in this format LPPTEIDW, that worked for me. Could also not load via route select key

If it had taken me 10 seconds, I would not have bothered posting anything. The fact remains that it took multiple attempts for the system to recognise that I was providing a password in the format required, and then I had to retrieve yet another email to obtain an access code. Yes, maybe I overreacted a bit, but this is not the first time that the PMDG site has requested a change of password from me for no apparent reason.

Having said that, I love PMDG products, so I can live with it

Really surprised at this problem Christopher as I was able to access my account no problems at all as I have done for Updates done sans OC2. The only slight hiccup I had was the Order Numbers did not tally with my records, but RSR came through with them, so no probs at all in the end.

The ground steering, above 10kts is almost non-existent. Even a real-world 747 pilot chimed in on their forums and said its not realistic at all.

My experience with this new update is worse than the v4 ported to v5. I'm having crashes just for loading into an airport with heavy rain (KERNELBASE.dll crash). I also got a crash just for changing the view from external to internal (g2d.dll). I've also noticed that activesky wasn't loaded in one flight, so I restarted activesky, and when the rain poured in it CTD'd again not long after Activesky had updated the weather.

Might be just me, but these crashes don't occur on the 777 so I will probably have to skip on the 747 for a while until maybe I find a solution to this.

There is an adjustment for “steering sensitivity” in one of the PMDG Options menus. I use a tiller axis, and found that the default setting was at “low”, which gave no ability to make sharp turns. Setting it to “high” solved the problem.

FMC > PMDG Options > Simulation

Page 11 on the very top "STEERING SENSITIVTY"

First press the MENU key on the CDU, then select PMDG SETUP -> OPTIONS -> SIMULATION, then press NEXT PAGE on the CDU to step to page 11/11

So, I guess that they have implemented the new "steering code" in this update? I sincerely hope that this does not make a mess of everything, because the steering is perfectly fine in my currently installed version of the 747.
