New NVIDIA 451.48 - GPU Hardware Scheduler is out

Featured Replies

Implemented Nvidia's hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling on Windows 2004 update without any noticeable effects on GPU Memory usage or lower-level FPS. However, the initiative may prove fruitful with further updates on behalf of both Windows and Nvidia.

Didn't work well for me.  Definite decrease in FPS (using my default test flight).  Progressive deterioration of frames after about 100 miles and finally the dreaded jerkiness of stutter after stutter to the point where I had to use Task Manager to escape.

I will unclick the "enable the hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling option" in Windows settings and just try the driver as I would any other driver.

Ok, 5 minutes test :D.

For me it works and.... works nice! In normal view I recived +10-20 FPS (it was 120-125 FPS in my test, no I have 140-144 in the same location), for VR stable 45 FPS, smooth view with motion reprojection ON. P3Dv5 HT2.

Later I'll do longer flight, now Id like to check it in DCS.

Check in Driver settings >>> programms >>> GPU high performance (not integred card, I see new option now, default with P3D I had integred, dont know why).

OK got it running to and it indeed smoothes some more the overall experience is good. Flew round about 45 minutes now

For those who are suffering on FPS when enabling this: I had trouble with my EVGA X Precision OC tool. So maybe just check out these kind of tools by reapplying your profiles or disabling the tools after reset your orginal GFX settings. In my case I did just reapply my OC profile.

P3DV5HF2 does indeed give me very smooth experience, even in VR.

I had the same issue with my EVGA Precision X1 the overclocked profile, it was reset to default and I had to go in and reload my profile.

At first I thought I had a "new" FPS issue even when I disabled the feature in Windows 10 and did a restart but I found the issue to be my GPU profile needed to be reset.

I will try the feature again later and make sure my GPU profile stays where it's supposed to be.

EDIT      After enabling the GPU Hardware Scheduler again in "Windows Graphics Settings" it did not reset my GPU profile in EVGA Precison X1. Now with my overclocked profile not reset this time the fps issue went away since it was obviously induced by the changes to my GPU profile and all is good now.

I can't say as of yet if this option has made anything better but it certainly didn't make anything worse once I corrected the odd resetting of my GPU profile that I was unaware of. However,I will say a P3Dv5 H2 full reinstall coupled with Windows 10 2004 version and the latest Nvidia drivers 451.48 have me very impressed!

I have installed it, because fortune favors the brave.

Don't forget to delete your shader folder: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Shaders

I tried without this, and found a lot of graphical glitches - transparent panels in the Maddog, etc, even though my HF2 shaders are only 1 day old and I don't use any shader mods.

Working well for me now with a 2080Ti, Rift S (Steam VR mode) and a i9900K @ 5.0 GHz, flying with EA as always.

Is it any better - not convinced yet, but VR seems reasonable on the ramp, not quite holding 45 FPS at Orbx LEAS. We'll see how she is on a flight now.

In summary: after shader cache deletion, I haven't seen any showstopping problems BUT it also doesn't obviously provide any real benefit. I've updated because I like testing new things, but if you're not in the mood to experiment, I'd say you're not missing much by sitting back and watching the data come in for a bit.

this is interesting.  Most seem to be liking this driver. Did you clear your shaders?

Yes cleared shaders and created new cfg

and the sim was really jerky.

oh well back to previous and all is well again.

ill wait for the next driver and try again.

I had nothing but smoothness with this drivers. I was getting an excess of 90fps in the Dash8.

Hmm perhaps I’ll try reinstalling.

Like everybody said.  I haven't noticed anything worse or better than my last driver version.  i toggled on hardware accelerating in windows.  Historically I would run P3D as follows.

NCP: Under change resolution set refresh rate to 30hz.  Then under Manage 3D Settings/P3D: Imagine Sharpening On, Low latency mode on, Prefer max power, and Vsync on.

In P3D: Max frames.

I wonder if it's time to revisit any of these settings.  In V4 I couldn't use max frame rate in NCP because it would create weird ghosting.  So that is why I would just change the refresh rate.  But I guess i should try all this out again.

Well, low latency is irrelevant for 30hz/FPS gaming, and doesn't even work in DX12.

thanks.  what about sharpening?  I also read that doesn't work in DX12?

Not sure about that, but it's easy enough to test.
