Pre order : advantage over buying at release date ?

you can pre-order on Windows 10* or pre-install with Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) today.

So, if i get it right, preload or pre-install is only available with the Xbox Game Pass. Now, do we have anybody who already has the Xbox Game Pass and can confirm that?

It might also be something available later on, before the release of the 18th of August also

After ordering one of the three packages, an installer is downloaded and stored on your computer, which creates a Launcher Icon that you will use on release day to download the full program and run it.

I have a Game Pass subscription running. I can confirm that I was able to "pre-order" the standard edition without any cost and that it is shown in my Game Pass app.

However, in regards to pre-load or pre-install, it is at least for me exactly the same as n4gix stated above. I was able to download a 20 MB file only. I have a Start button in the app, no Install button (yet?). If I click on Start, it just says, it is not yet released.

So as stated in my previous post I have not read any confirmation when or if any pre-load/Install of the ACTUAL sim will start.

It is at least for me not "today" which of course does not necessarily mean it will be on release date only....

Interesting. 11pm where though? What time zone? I suppose they could stagger access to 11pm for each zone but I bet that would kick up a stink when somebody would be waiting 12 hours to begin their download.🙂

I have very high confidence the MS servers can handle the downloads of this release...at the end of the day it is still a small community vs. something very large like a major Windows update.

If I pre-order the Premium Deluxe for Windows 10 can I switch to the new XBox when it comes out? Or will it require another purchase for XBox.

Thank You!

That's the question alright! Nowhere on the MSFS website does it mention the timezone. Maybe GMT?

Bill, from what I read on the official FAQ the answer is yes, you should be able to play on your PC or XBox, but only one at a time of course.

I think the "Start downloading overnight" comment was made not because of Microsoft's capacity, but rather the potentially massive size of the package that your computer will need to download. Don't forget that we all still have to deal with the "last mile" of internet service to our homes. It's probably going to take a while, even with a completely healthy CDN.

That and the fact that I've experienced downloading a couple of Alpha versions. 🙂

Hmmm ...

There is NO advantage to be the first mover here!  Zilch!

Would be different if they offered "guaranteed heavily discounted prices", or extra planes, or a 1/2 price new HOTAS to the early birds.

But nope!  That's NOT the sales plan!

The entire purpose of this is a pure marketing study by MS to evaluate just how much demand there REALLY is for the simulator, and how price-sensitive that is to their proposed price-points.

If impatient fans want to smack down their money immediately ...?  Good luck to them.  They are just pawns in the MS marketing game - again!

I'm super-excited they are releasing early, but I will still be taking my own sweet time before I put down the big cash.

I'm due for a hardware upgrade, but that will DEFINITELY be done only next year (because MUCH too much REAL game-changing (excuse pun!) new computing power, graphics cards, and new Flight-Controller hardware is still right on the cusp of delivery (just months away!).

Spend all your money on current stuff now, and you WILL be SERIOUSLY regretting that you didn't wait a few months for all this MUCH BETTER stuff to appear in the shops.

Will play the free 30-day trial for $1 on X-Box first.  And then ...

I would not be surprised at all if after the initial rush, the game will be bundled as a heavily-discounted package with X-Box (and a HOTAS controller thrown in too!) for the Xmas season or as a Black Friday special.

I'll probably spring for an X-Box then.

Don't forget, the arrival of FS2020 on the market is going to VERY MUCH disrupt the Xmas sales plans plans of all the other guys who also want ( now NEED!) to sell their stuff in quantity at Xmas time.

These guys will be FORCED to heavily discount their wares in order to attract attention their way.  Have no more interest in X-Plane or PMG.  But I'm certainly looking at you, DCS!

Patience has a virtue all of its own to those in no hurry (or can convince the sellers that they aren't, anyway) ...

😜
