Are 32Gb of ram really needed?

Featured Replies

It seems overkill to me, and I'd appreciate some beta tester's opinion...

To avoid violating the NDA I'll phrase it like this:

Is it a good moment for flight simmers to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB?

I am going into this with 16 GB and expect it to work.

Maybe some time in the future, I may go to 32 GB if I see a need for it.. but why now?

Bert I have 32GB as Ed say that's no overkill

It's not overkill at all. I would almost say it's needed.

OK.. lets talk again around the end of the month 😉

I've been on 16GB DDR3, i5 2500 and GTX 960...

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I am also going into this with 16gb of ram. I would like to upgrade but was really hoping that I could upgrade before then. However, with what I want, I'll still be dropping around 1500 easily. May get the RAM first, I believe it will work with my current mother board.

Bert I can't say more at this point, but it's all about settings and where you are...

Not overkill. A bit more RAM is always a good thing. And you should bear in mind that the published MS specs for the sim are for it to run at this point, not with a ton of add-ons glued to the thing, which if you don't end up with, will be a first in the history of any flight simmer ever.

Got it 🙂

No "Ultra" for me, at least for a while..

No game that I played till now used more than 6-8GB, that's why I called overkill, but this sim is something different.

I also noticed (might be a coincidence though) that everyone that was admitted in the beta and that I read the specs of, has 32GB.

Yes.

Yeah, there was some discussion about 16Gb and whether you'd get a beta invite, but given the minimum specs are actually 8Gb, which presumably they had to test, I'm not convinced it was a bar to getting a beta invite.
