✈ How Good is the Camera System? ✈

Featured Replies

Strangely enough, this is one of the more controversial issues regarding the sim, with some people thinking the camera system is a complete, total useless (and, gamey!) mess, and others simply using it with no problem and wondering what all the angst is about.

I watched the same... either way I'll be using it until something better comes out. It looks manageable!

Certainly better then what I used to do during my virtual cockpit mouse panics 🙂

It's not what they're used to.  There is no documentation.  Lots of trial and error involved.  It takes a while to get things figured out and set up.

I see videos where they use the menu to switch back and forth to external view.  There is a convenient keystroke to do that, no need for the hassle of going through a menu.  But not everyone knows about it.

My problems went away when they implemented TrackIR. 😄

Looks easy to set up and use but what I don’t understand is why we cannot walk back in the cabin and save a wing view?

i remember seeing the 747 wing view during the pre launch trailer. It also showed the 747 cabin and you can see the spoilers going up. Is this feature not released yet?

There are some testers that were very unhappy and quite vocal about it, which actually left me frowning and scratching my head.

At that time, taking a look, I found a powerful and very intuitive system (not just talking about the cameras, here) that after only a few seconds thought seemed fairly obvious.

Or so I believed at first. (and still kind of do, actually)

Looking more closely though, I think what I had not considered was how a good portion of the confusion might be at least partially due to peoples years-long familiarity with other sims, coupled with a bit of a resistance to starting the learning process over from scratch.

Thus the threads with beta testers advocating for wholesale replication of various FSX or X-plane or Even 3rd party control schemes for this and that, usually with the complaint that the current MSFS systems were too game-like.

As Asobo/Microsoft show no signs of changing course with this, I think the community is going to have a lot to absorb upon release, and videos like this are going to be a godsend for many.

This should probably be pinned. 🙂

"...a bit of a resistance to starting the learning process over from scratch."

Might as well get used to it.  In the end, it's worth it though.

The camera system looks good to me, though I would prefer if there were some adjustments to make the external camera work more like the old Locked Spot. Centred around the aircraft, and no smoothing out the turbulence. At least the momentum is adjustable.

Also the instrument and showcase quickviews should have names so that you don't have to keep cycling until you reach the view you need.

A bit unfortunate that tower, runway and AI cameras were removed, but I guess most people won't miss them.

What really matter is that if/when a replay system shows up, that the sim replicate the recorded aircraft config on a replay.

Tower cameras are one of the best for watching landing replays. It’s more realistic than spot view for watching replays. The observer is fixed and pans his view as the plane comes into land, just like in real life.

Another must have view is the internal cabin wing view which should also be saved and assigned to a key.

This is for the airliner simmers. GA pilots may not miss this view that much.

Thank you for posting this...set and loading custom views works just like XP, very quick & easy.

One question I have is...are the custom cockpit views that you create saved on a per aircraft basis? I mean, I would think that they HAVE to be, yes?

Custom cameras are saved per-plane and across sessions.

So you have all these views (instrument views 1-xx etc), with keybinds that you can configure, and then you have a whole slew of customizable keybinds just like xplane (ctrl + keypad)? Sounds great 🙂

yep very good so far... all we need to figure out will be the internal wing views and then external flyby's down near the runways (for landing replays).
