Microsoft's call: "The sky is calling. Play today!"

What are your thoughts?

Personally, I think this is a game targeted for casual gamers who seek to be impressed by amazing graphics and give little thought to the intricacies of simming.

The numerous bugs despite reports in beta and alpha by hardcore simmers just shows which group Asobo is catering to.

I do hope this changes with future updates, otherwise this will die off similar to Microsoft Flight.

Its fantastic.

For the first time in history we have a realistic autopilot in a default Airbus to the point that guys like you are claiming "its broken" or "it doesnt work properly or responds"

I am amused to see for the first time those who havent got a glimpse about flying and decide the sim "is bugged"

Other folks have installation problems and again blame MS when in all cases its their own fault.

Its a game luckily. It will always be. The purpose of the sim is to give pleasure and amusement. If you want reality go to reality. In flightsim we sit at home on pijamas or having snacks and a drink.

But even then, its 10 times better than any sim, current or previous

Expectations are high because the void MS left when they shut down the Aces studio has been filled with some seriously impressive products. This is the beginning of a new era, give it time. It is blindingly obvious that this incarnation will mature over the months and years to come.

MFS might have big shoes to fill, but it has even bigger ambitions, so getting the basics right was always going to be priority number one. The only real gripe that can be leveled at them is that they released it too early, leading to a lot of frustration across numerous unconnected issues. Microsoft's commitment to keep updating the core product is what matters here, not its current state. Anyone remember Windows 10 when it was released?

Its the best base sim and I have been simming since 1982.

I don't believe that anyone could consider the backend infrastructure and tech that's in place to make this thing work and describe it as 'a game for casual gamers'.

It's absolutely 'entertainment software' and without a doubt a lot of folks owning mid to high end PCs will have signed up to the XBox subscription to try it out.

The 'intracacies' of simming will be up to the payware and third party authors, just as it always has been.

If Asobo continue to improve and bugfix, and the payware folks do their thing, I can't see any reason we don't get the best of both worlds.

I didn't expect to be able to even run it, I don't know what voodoo is happening under the hood but I cannot honestly imagine buying anything further for XPlane - which has been my main sim for years.

The first bunch of study level aircraft to go on sale are going to make ten fortunes, and create a new generation of addicts and hobbyists.

If a tiny fraction of the 'casual gamers' develop a *genuine passion for aviation* from flying A320s with their XBox controllers then let them at it.

If your are simmer MSFS is a simulator. If you are games MSFS is game. Same goes for x-plane!

It's whatever you want it to be.

Now, how many more threads like this do we need?

Its this simple!! Who cares what the next person thinks it is! It is what you want it to be. Tired of this argument lol

If it is a game, who wins? The ground or the aircraft? 😉

This topic could be argued back and forth till eternity. It is what you make it. Disable all the assistance etc, follow proper procedures on the ground and in the air and MSFS 2020 with stunning visuals and weather allows you practice airmanship, VFR and IFR procedures just like the real thing. On the other side, just do crazy stuff and post on reddit and you have all the antics of a game.

It has been debated for more than 3 decades.  Well, at least since there has been the Interweb and forums.😉

Right now it's neither a game or a sim, it's a simulation of a sim, but soon it will be both (once all the addons start arriving).

Going to qualify the next statement because I truly don't know. IN MY OPINION, it is what you make it.

It might be a game to you and atm not perfect but this community will turn this thing on it's head and make it into a freaking monster of a Sim.
