What's missing in MSFS?

Recommended Posts

Autumn scenery, contrails, breaking waves, the moon(?).

Can't wait for 3rd party developers to provide small airfield activity.  Remember the guy that mowed the grass in FSX?

Main airports. They promised "depart from any airport in the world". My base airport (5th biggest city in Spain, 2 runways with international flights and B747 operating) is neither listed nor modeled (no runways when flying above). I depart from it routinely on XPlane without any trouble

It looks like the airport in the 5th biggest city in Spain is pixelated out on bing aerial view maps, therefore no airport in MSFS. There are a few other major city airports that have the same issue. Stuttgart in Germany was another. Somebody posted a list somewhere, not sure if it was here or on another flight sim site. I will stick with P3DV5 for the foreseeable future.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

the moon(?).

Dude... maybe you should check the cycle before making such statements. The moon is there, it is just that we had new moon 3 days ago. I saw it's sickle yesterday evening. Exactly then I went out side to see whether the positon was correct, and voila there it was. Just as the sim had shown me.

it's widely acknowledged the sim was released 3-6 months before it was ready

By whom? The all-knowing “they”? I don’t believe Asobo and Microsoft, even is they really believed it, would ever publicly acknowledge such a thing.

As far as what’s missing, a Garmin avionics suite that allows usable /G IFR practice.

But, but, the promotional videos and screenshots looked so awesome!

I never expected MSFS to look like what the marketing folks at MS/Adobo were advertising, but I'm really surprised at how many negative reviews I'm coming across from so many different people.

I've also said that we'll need to be patient and give it time.  It should have been expected that there would be problems upon release and that it will take time to fix them and iron out the kinks.  However, it's evident from all the comments I've read that the powers that be at MS/Asobo released this thing way too early and didn't test it properly.  For example, I was amazed to discover that metric units aren't included.  Wow.

I could list many other missing features, bugs, shortcomings, etc., but that's all covered in many different threads so no need to rehash them here.  Suffice it to say that there are a number of really important aspects of the sim that need fixing and improving.  Oh yes, there are the "this thing is the best ever!" threads as well, but they are mostly highlighting the new scenery and how fantastic and realistic it is(I would hope so as it is satellite imagery after all).  Other than that, however, this new sim has got a long way to go before it's ready for prime time, and I don't mean from a solely entertainment/gaming/eye candy & sightseeing perspective, but from a flight simulator pilot perspective.

I'm looking forward to hearing what the developers have to say for themselves.  If they want people like me to buy this thing, then they had better get really busy real soon.

1/ While at the gate, select different aircraft (or even livery) without having to re-load the entire flight.
2/ A REAL pause (aka total freeze!)
3/ Much accurate and complete map.

It's already there.

Use the "set pause on" and "set pause off" commands. That will give you a real pause.

Yes, the moon is definitely present in MSFS - in the right position and phase for a given location, date and time.

Working autopilots

Actually, the autopilots work, but they're much more like real ones, instead of what we had in FSX and previous.
