I didn't read the article.  I've been recommending people try it with their current hardware first to see how it works.  If you need anything upgraded you'll know quickly enough.  Many people have been surprised at how well MSFS runs without upgrading.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

The performance on my pc with a 7700K and RTX2080 is acceptable in 1080p (II have a 1080p monitor). It is a little bit of a concern that the monster PC in this video doesn't fare better than it does. Good to know that the sim has room to grow in terms of future hardware I guess.

I thought my mid-level i7 was incapable of running the sim at 4K. I was considering a hardware upgrade. Then I enabled hyperthreading and the sim now runs perfectly smoothly at 4K. Don't trash your current hardware until you thoroughly understand how it's interacting with the sim.

Processor: Intel i9-13900KF 5.8GHz 24-Core, Graphics Processor: Nvidia RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6, System Memory: 64GB High Performance DDR5 SDRAM 5600MHz, Operating System: Windows 11 Home Edition, Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX, LGA 1700, CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling, RGB and LCD Display, Chassis Fans: Corsair Low Decibel, Addressable RGB Fans, Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low-Noise Platinum ATX 1000 Watt, Primary Storage: 2TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, Secondary Storage: 1TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, VR Headset: Meta Quest 2, Primary Display: SONY 4K Bravia 75-inch, 2nd Display: SONY 4K Bravia 43-inch, 3rd Display: Vizio 28-inch, 1920x1080. Controller: Xbox Controller attached to PC via USB.

As a note to many, make sure you use the 60fps setting in the Sim to maximize your GPU.  With my modest GTX1060 6 GB, my fps almost doubled.  It did make the GPU run at around 100% where when I used 30fps setting,  it ran at about 60%.

More like "we knew" that we would need future hardware that is currently not available to run FS2020 at ultra settings even with a 1080P monitor.

Gosh this sounds like FSX haha

What do you consider acceptable?

I'm getting 30 fps at 1440p with clouds on high, everything else on ultra with a 7700K, 1070. A 2080 at 1080p should be more than acceptable.

Not entirely. I just finished a flight from KSLC to KLAX and am on Ultra at 1080p and had a steady 30fps the entire time. Of course it was default Airbus. I’m only running a i7-9700k and 1080ti. Sure, future hardware is really going to be nice but it’s still pretty dang enjoyable all maxed out.

Let me know how it performs when you drop in a PMDG 737.

I was thinking the same thing, glade it's not.  Future hardware couldn't run FSX well out the box.  This sim takes advantage of current hardware today and looks great doing it.

To be fair to PMDG, they did a stunning optimisation job on their 747-400 for FSX, and that was at risk of OOM for being 32 Bit, yet barely ever caused a crash. You might be surprised how well they can fit a 737 in.

I'd love to bet you it's going to run as good as the default Cessna.  I'm pretty sure PMDG is going to have their add-ons running smooth as butter in this sim.

The sim isn’t designed to run well with PMDG. Like I said, it’s all default but can still run Ultra just fine without the need of future hardware. However, PMDG did say that their 737 so far has no more of a hit than the default Airbus... 🤷‍♂️

It is on purpose.  What is the best way to increase gaming hardware sales?
