Was over 30k people online today , right now 21k  and I bet you not all of them have top end computers. My guess is a lot of people have computer issues. Just listing specs does nothing if you computer is configured wrong.

I didn't read the article.  I've been recommending people try it with their current hardware first to see how it works.  If you need anything upgraded you'll know quickly enough.  Many people have been surprised at how well MSFS runs without upgrading.

The article was really good with graphs up the ying-yang.  The results surprised me.  Toms Hardware thorough.

Cheers

Bingo! Hence why the article 5-10 years down the road maybe new hardware will tame the beast or ASOBO makes adjustments to the sim code to improve performance.

The performance on my pc with a 7700K and RTX2080 is acceptable in 1080p (II have a 1080p monitor). It is a little bit of a concern that the monster PC in this video doesn't fare better than it does. Good to know that the sim has room to grow in terms of future hardware I guess.

To an extent…Yes. This is why it needs Direct X12.

One being bottle-necked by the IPC and GHz of ones processor. Everyone is currently. DX11 is limited in it’s multi-threading capability and generates too many draw calls that exceed any CPU in existence today. Even if it's scaled to other threads, the main-thread is really the cause of ones lower GPU usage. It is the case in P3D, XP11 and FSX. This has always been the #1 reason why frames are always lower in flight sims. You would think that P3D, as being a DX12 application, would fair better but the legacy ESP engine code is still far to single threaded focused. It’s very easy to see. Load a PMDG 777 in P3D. The frame will vary to 40-50FPS. Pause the sim and your frame will jump by almost 80%. This is because simulation code and draw calls are on the same thread and limited your CPU to drive your GPU.

This is not rocket science. Asobo needs to port their engine to a proper full DX12 engine. (not like LM did) and implement DLSS. This is the only way we will ever get 60 fps in this sim. A RTX 3000 series will not help anyone. We need overall lower draw calls combined with spreading the load across enough threads that it doesn’t bottleneck the GPU. When you increase the render scale, all you are doing in loading higher resolution to your GPU (just like DSR), it doesn’t provide you more frames.

Do this and it will open performance for past, present and future hardware (Multi-core CPUs and GPUs)

I used to care about graphs.  Then the "Sports Car Graphic" magazine stopped publishing. 🙂

Anyone remember their "road tests" of the Goodyear Blimp, the steam locomotive (Cornering: as if on rails) and the formula 1 car?

The way I read the video interviews is that FSX was always the starting point for any development so we will see some FSX ghosts in this one.

My I7 7700 non K and gtx 1060 6gb with only 12gb of ram runs 2020 very good and like you I agree it’s  kinda concerning that the FPS are so low on this machine, in fact I get equal to what he was getting, mind you I’m not on 4K or even 2K...But none the less still crazy when you compare the horsepower!

after years of observing users trying all manner of shenanigans (and it must be said, doing some of them myself) in order to squeeze performance in the ways demanded by prior, heavily cpu-bound flightsims, I am sure that many flight simmers posses systems that are not really set up "normal".  perhaps a reconfigure of all the crazy stunts we've been trying for the last 14 years might be in order?  Not sure.

I just built a new PC, so I'm not much help on whether it runs great on older hardware, and I refuse to go 4k until the graphics cards required to run it are less than 500 bucks.  but the i9 with a 2070 RTX runs MSFS like a champ here on 1080p.  never had better performance, including my flights with this same computer on p3dv5.

I'm running pretty decently as well with 1080p high-ultra settings with my set up (see signature). Averaging ~40+fps

YES!  I'll take the that rig inside the wooden crate please...

BTW, the watch the guy literally tear open the Origin crate.  Inside, the PC chassis glass is etched on both sides with MSFS2020...

When MSFS hit`s 1/2 million on line a day on steam it will be competing with the top games the best get 3/4 million + .
