Am happy to see so many new people to the Flight Sim community. Even if MSFS flops in the next 2 years , which I don't think will happen , this whole new breed of simmers is good for us all.

Even if this does not become a thing for public distribution it might put a little pressure on Bing Maps if this takes off and gets wildly used.  Which imo is a good thing 🙂

Bing will continue to improve so expect a lot more landmarks get added in the sim. However I do remember during testing someone from the team mentioning that some landmarks are trademarked so they're missing from the sim. At one point the Eiffel tower was missing because of trademark issues, I haven't checked if it's in the retail version.

I like your post B787 , but you not getting 3 likes for same post 😛

So..it took me like 2 hours last night doing a few tutorials.
But this opens lots of amazing stuff you can do with the sim!.

Now this is what I like to see! Positivity and resulting constructive contribution!

It's welcome next to all those pages long complain-threads. 🙂

Happy with MSFS 🙂

It's more than famous landmarks.

On the charts are VRPs. Visual Reference Points. My local example is Warwick M40 Junction due north of EGBW 180.

All the VRPs should be paid attention to.

Luckily, M40 J15 sticks out like a sore thump. The 'landmark' due north of that is Kenilworth Castle. A large redstone building on a hill. Bob Dudley's old place.

Cheers.

I'm no lawyer, but I do use Google API data for other projects and they do charge for it after a free tier. They do not allow you cache it or save it on your own server. I think anyone doing these conversions of 3D objects for their own personal use will probably be left alone, but if anyone tries to distribute them as freeware or payware, I think they will be on thin ice. I would not consider it without getting permission or some other type of licensing agreement from Google, and I doubt they provide it for something like this.

They won't care if you don't sell them or make money with them. It's tolerated.

95% of the addons for Cities Skylines are scrapped google photogrammetry model. No one ever got a request to take his addon down.

I'm happy even if its only for personal stuff.  Heck, all of the ortho4xp stuff was just for my own use as well, so dont see a difference.  Not so worried about major landmarks as they will most likely eventually appear, but nostalgic stuff in more remote areas that they probably wont get to if the big win here.

Its also an easy enough stop gap to use right now to replace something that annoys you until the bing map data is improved.

Yeah but City Sky Lines was backed up by MS / Bing..

It would be nice if they looked the other way for hobbyists.
