I imagine importing too many objects in this format is going to eventually kill performance, but I don't know for certain.

I guess that would mostly depend on the density of these add-ons. I'm guessing they will remain relatively few and far between (relatively speaking).

I meant if trying to recreate an airport using these objects, but I guess it might depend on the density of the buildings at the airport. Looking forward to my first attempt at creating an airport in Blender, waiting for some guys to get past the teething pains so I can read some guides, rather than figure it all out myself.

My biggest concern with this. Is it violating any terms or conditions you agreed to with Google? I can see potential C&Ds over something like this.

Fantastic work though!

Don't tell them lol

A free-ware community effort on a project like this would be amazing to see. I would definitely pitch in to make the mfs world a better place. Divide the world into regions and the community can focus on certain parts of the world.

Could somebody please share a tutorial on how to do this so for those who are interested can learn.

Wonder if that created scenery would be wiped out by updates or would it be a layer above

That tipped me off into trying my hand at this.

The tutorials about how to extract a photogrammetric model into blender are not that hard to understand, it is just a time consuming process learning all the steps and then cleaning up the model, deleting all the surroundings that you don't want to end up in your finalized model.

I figured since the AI can't do churches, I'll do the Minster of my hometown first. The blender model is ready, I already converted it to MSFS format, now it's time to go to bed.

When I have time tommorow I'll try to figure out how to work the scenery editor of MSFS to place the model. I assume that will take me some time.

But if it works out I will do all churches of my hometown and then release it as a single package for the community.

At least that is the plan. Let's see how smooth everything goes. If all goes according to plan, I should have time to finish all this during the weekend.

I'm far from an expert but this looks illegal in some way.

My only hope is MS and Google some how shake hands and share a $2/month service like the OP show cases.

I agree, Google will shut this down as soon as it pops up on their radar. They won't allow their proprietary work to be redistributed, even if free, to be used in another platform, much less a Microsoft product.

Slightly off topic but I haven't read the EULA: are models created by individuals (not Google) that are offered for MSFS freeware obliged to be offered to MS for incorporation into Bing Maps 3D?

Ok I need to figure how to do this. I want to add the Monument of Santiago from Dominican Republic. It’s iconic to land at MDST and see it out your left hand side.
