Nostalgia/history was realism that existed in one point in time. Certain types of nostalgia can’t be replicated in real life but can be simulated to trigger memories that have significant meaning. I dare to suggest that more individuals experienced a simulated flight from Meigs field that any other airport through the history of Flight Simulator. For this reason alone, Meig’s field will be replicated by developers with the utmost attention for integration in this latest version.

Yeah!  Bring back the checkerboard so we can land at Kai Tak again!  Or not and go around...

Although we would probably have to bulldoze some buildings in Kowloon.  I'm pretty sure the buildings within that flight path built themselves up after Kai Tak closed down.

If anyone recalls, in 2003, Mayor Daley sent bulldozers to Meigs in the middle of the night and absolutley destroyed the runway - no notice was give to the owners of aircraft  already parked there  (to allow them to fly them out).

 

It's a Park, where in summer time they also have small outdoor concerts.

Stranded planes were allowed to take off from the Taxi way for one last time.

Interesting article. Sounds like that Daley was a total chop. Dangerous when an [word most definitely not allowed] has power.

Yeah I remember when he finally admitted why he tore up the runways in the middle of the night he knew he'd be sued to stop it if he asked about doing it(by at least 1 group Friends of Meigs Field). So he just went and did it, since he new he could get away with it. The City was later fined by the FAA $33,000(a mere pittance) for not following protocols for shutting down an airport properly. That being giving the FAA 30-days notice about closure($1,100 per day fine for 30-days).
