Anyone own the 3090 24gb and using it on a 4k 50inch tv/monitor with 4xssaa?maintaining smoothness ?

Just installed my 3090 yesterday...using a 55" 4K TV as a display, locked to 30 Hz via hardware VSync.  P3Dv5 runs smooth, not only with 4xSSAA, but with 4xSSAA and dynamic lighting at night, in weather.  In the daytime, 8xSSAA is smooth at 4K.  I've never seen anything power through the heavy stuff like this.

At FSDT Chicago at night in the PMDG NGXu with all the exterior lights on, DL+4xSSAA, it's averaging around 50% GPU load, with GPU temp in the low 60s.  Fans fairly quiet at ~75%, normalized total power fluctuating in the 80-100% range.  No excursions below the 30 Hz locked frame rate.

I usually do some sort of an upgrade or system rebuild this time of year.  This year this is gonna be it...despite the huge expense, it's definitely a keeper.

Just FYI w6kd, there are a lot of rumors about the 3080ti which will have 20Gb of VRAM and be in the vicinity of $999. The interesting thing about that is, other than the VRAM, the underlying hardware (CUs, etc) is rumored to be the same as the 3090.  If this is true, you could return the 3090 and save $500 or so. Here is an example YT --

Gigabyte x670 Aorus Elite AX MB; AMD 7800X3D CPU; Deepcool LT520 AIO Cooler; 64 Gb G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO DDR5 6000; Win11 Pro; P3D V5.4; 1 Samsung 990 2Tb NVMe SSD: 1 Crucial 4Tb MX500 SATA SSD; 1 Samsung 860 1Tb SSD; Gigabyte Aorus Extreme 1080ti 11Gb VRAM; Toshiba 43" LED TV @ 4k; Honeycomb Bravo.

@pgde  The only thing about that is the 3080ti is just a rumor right now.  Not saying it won't happen.  But with the way nvidia has handled their supply chain in the past combined with scalpers, who knows when somebody would actually practically get one.  That's why I just also bought the 3090 even though the 3080ti on paper is a better match for me.  I installed it last night, but had hoped to have it much earlier.  Not disagreeing with your point however.

Seems like we are having good times ahead of us regarding GPUs. AMD is finally really pushing Nvidia and if the 6900 XT is as good as they promised I am almost sure that Nvidia will bring a 3080ti to the table

Thanks for your reply. That’s good to hear.

ill be updating to this card later next year sometime when hopefully I get it a little cheaper.

thanks

Well, there is always, always the ever-present rumor of something mo'-fasta'-betta' coming around the corner.  The 3090 exists now, and the industry scuttle I'm reading says there's a shortage that's likely to last 6+ months or more, so I'm happy to have gotten my grubbies on one (at the regular retail price) right now.  I got the 2080Ti fairly early in its product life and before the prices went nuts--I'd have had to spend a lot more for one of those had I waited.  So recent experience suggests that there are no guarantees that waiting a few months would take me to a place where cheaper (or even more expensive) options might actually be available for purchase.

I'm gonna stand pat.

Simple decision for me. In my country from the most legitimate of supply chains the 3090 is $3000 dollars which is ridiculous.

It's expensive, no doubt about it, although why you folks in the British Commonwealth sit still for the crazy import tariffs you pay I do not understand.

But the 80486 motherboard and CPU I bought back in 1989 for $1800 (about $3775 in 2020 dollars) was expensive.  And the $4500 set of golf clubs one of my neighbors bought?  My best friend just spent $30,000 remodelling his kitchen.  Then there's my buddy's $75,000 tournament bass fishing boat, complete with radar, sonar, torpedo tubes, depth charge racks, and an optional surface-to-air missile launcher that he uses maybe four months out of the year...oh, and the $60,000 truck to pull it to the lake.

It's all relative.  I told my wife I was gonna pull the trigger on the 3090 and she just kinda shrugged and said, "well, there's not much else to spend it on these days."

Bob, I just installed my 3090 a few days ago and most of my hardware specs and settings (30hz on 43in 4K TV) are close to yours. I came from a 8080K@5.1 & 1080ti. With most of my sliders maxed or high I flew the QW787 into FSDT KORD at night in winter, autogen distance maxed and the FPS stayed pegged at 30FPS the entire flight. I didn't get one pause or hiccup. Even dynamic lighting at KEWR and KORD were no match for the video card. With my previous build I hated flying at night because DL would kill my graphics card. This new build has brought new life to P3D and MSFS2020.

I just got my MSI GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING X TRIO 24G in my hands. Upgrading from a 1080Ti. So looking forward to going from 4xMSAA to 4xSSAA on my 55in 4k screen. I have a 9900k as well so I'm thinking most P3D v5.1 sliders can be maxed to the right once I get my computer guys to install it later this month or early March.

And finally install LatinVFR MIA/FLL without ever having to worry about VRAM!

I'm glad you added that last part, cause I have never seen a nice boat be pulled by an old beater truck... LOL.

My wife wanted to go spend the night at the beach. I said I'm tired of paying $200 a night on the Oregon coast, an hour drive from me. So I went and bought a new $40k F-150 and a new $25k travel trailer. I'm not sure the math worked out on that one, but hey now we go camping all over the place. Late last summer we did the red woods. Highly recommend if you haven't seen them yet.

You can probably pick up one of those Sparrow 8-cell launchers cheap these days.  Navy surplus!  Suisan Bay special.

I'm standing pat with my 1080ti for now.  I can run LatinVFR KMIA with my 11gigs right now, so I'm good.

Watch me eat my words in a couple of weeks when the PMDG 777 update hits.

It's very unlikely that it will be released this year, because NVIDIA used a 2+ year release cycle for their most "recent" generations. Not even all Ampere Cards are released by now and I'm not speaking about general availability or supply shortage.

Maxwell = early 2014
Pascal = early 2016
Turing = end of 2018
Ampere = end of 2020
Lovelace = one can only guess, but you know what I'm trying to say

Additionally, there is a high chance of wrong predictions about NVIDIA architecture releases, meaning that nobody knows which platform is for consumer or professional use only. Remember when Pascal was current? Rumor was "Volta" will be the successor (it wasn't, although there's a Volta Titan), then "Ampere" (it wasn't - okay, now it is, but with one generation inbetween), then Turing got released.. so chances are high these rumors are wrong again or maybe Lovelace is not targeted for the gamer market at all.
