I really don't understand how they can be so succesfull with such a difficult name.

Because having a name which looks difficult to you isn't a barrier to success? Plenty people travel to Kirkcudbright or Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch without being able to pronounce them. And I'm sure plenty of Polish people manage to buy things from British, American, Canadian etc websites even if the name looks odd to them.

It's interesting comparing the interior modeling of the office with actual photographs, and also with their previous modeling in their Xplane version. There's actually elements from various administrations in there, in the pictures, the furniture, and the coloring of the drapery.

No, it might be a barrier. When you have two companies they offer the same product, you will most likley choose the company which name you can remember. This is simple psychology. It's not about pronounication only. It's about how you can memorize the name. It doesn't matter if it's polish or not. If you have a weird english term or fiction name, it might effect you, because people simply don't remember you.

Sure, polish people can manage to buy english termed things. However: many polish people know English. How many Americans or Canadians you know that speak polish? It's like the word apple. You can name you company "apple" or "苹果 (apple in chinese)", which product you would buy as a englisch or american/european guy? It's apple, because it's closer to your cultural context and langauge.

I’m looking forward to doing some sightseeing in a Cessna that would likely get me shot down in real life!

Only the Polish.   😂

The "Drz" actually makes a sound very much like it would if you tried to pronounce those letters in that order in English.   It's would be something, *very* roughly, like "Dirzh".

(Source:  not Polish, but live in Chicago (aka, "Outer Warsaw") and have a friend from Poland who relentlessly teases my ability to actually pronounce those impossible sounds.)

Second edit:  Just talked with my buddy to confirm the second half.  It, of course, also uses sounds English doesn't have.  But, very loosely approximated, it would end something like "vayskey", with the s being somewhat soft/lispy and the "ay" a dipthong we don't have, but that's close enough.    So, more or less, "Dirzhvayskey".   But even saying it that way you'd sound like a total anglo.   😄

Edit:  Here's a video where she pronounces a "drz" word:

Now I know why the Poles didn't adopt the Cyrillic alphabet, Cyrillia probably didn't want them...

If it's online, I'll have them bookmarked. If not, I have pen and paper.🙂

Jeh-VYET-ski

(Eh being the vowel sound in “gem” or “Emma”, not the Canadian one; “vyet” is a single syllable, not two, and should be stressed)

Weirdest thing about Polish pronunciation (ok, ONE of the weirdest things) is that there is no actual “r” sound in the consonant cluster “rz”. “Rzeczpospolita” (zhech-poh-spoh-LEE-ta), commonwealth, is roughly cognate in spelling with Latin “republic” but a non-Polish speaker would never hear the connection...when you put “d” in front of the “rz” you get a “j” sound as in “jetski” or “General”. Still no R!

We're getting wayyyy off topic here, but my understanding of Marketing 101 is the main thing that matters is you're memorable.  It's like the old saw "there's no such thing as bad publicity".   There may be 100 different scenery designers named some variation of Sim Flight Design Productions Team and it can be had to track which is which.  But you'll dang sure remember that Polish name you cant pronounce, even if you can't pronounce it, and you're more likely to say* "Drzweicki Design?  I remember them!  They did this other thing Ilike!" than "Drzweicki Design?   It is them I like, or Flight Partners Design Bureau?"

* you probably wouldn't say that just like that because you can't pronounce Drzweicki, but from my experience Poles in the US are used to people horribly butchering their language. 😄

Oh man, I need to check out of this conversation before the linguist in me takes over.    Let's just say that phonology can be completely orthogonal to orthography, and it's best if we all just use IPA when having these discussions.  😂   I once got into an extended discussion with a Dutchman online about the best way to write the Dutch "w" sound in English, where we fundamentally disagreed what letter it mapped to even though there was rough agreement on the pronunciation.  I was like, "I am not tellling you how to speak your language, I'm just telling you which of the English sounds I know sounds closest to that one and what the letter I'd use to write it is."

The way our ears interact with our eyes in written language always fascinates me.

It actually drives me crazy that I can’t just use IPA for this stuff (I’m not a linguist, BTW, just someone who speaks a few languages!). But sadly, most people can’t read IPA. And some languages work better in IPA than others. Polish actually isn’t so terrible. Russian, on the other hand...

When I first got DD's Washington X for FSX, I actually selected the Trike Ultralight to make my first flights in DC precisely so that I could tool around DC at a snail's pace checking out the sights ... totally enjoyable.

Just because you do it, doesn't mean majority of people do it either. Especially when it comes to a non-nische products.

Yes, that's a valid point and I agree. However, it's rather a barriere because you might get lazy to find the right combination of the letters to put the word together. At least it's for me like that. I really like Drzweicki Sceneries, but I don't follow them like FSDreamteam, Flytampa or Flightabeam. Especially in the first time it was hard to find them. Potential customers who are not so keen about them might lose interesest, because they just don't want to use much time to find them and jump off.

Haha, yes, some Polish sounds are impossible for native English speakers to pronounce.  There's just no way tongue that grew up with English can contort itself to some of the sounds.

(There's a typo in Drzewiecki in thread title.  Also for those that might not know, the name is not just company name - it's a last name)

I am looking for one specific feature of this before buying..   "Blending right in"

Let's face it, the imported Google 3D buildings into MSFS look great model wise, but they completely and utterly stand out like a sore thumb against the default scenery surrounding it and the immersion factor goes right out the window.  If these are just insanely high quality renders plopped in the default scenery this is a big "thanks but no thanks" from me.

I understand the need for scenery addons like this, but if it doesn't blend in seamlessly with default it has no use for me.
