Wohooo! I finally get to spend more money

... on my cpu! I am upgrading my i7-6700k to a I9-10900K that a Norwegian retailer finally got in stock. In addition to that, I am getting a new MB (asus z490), a nxzt watercooler and a WD NVDME 3.0 x4.

The goods are set to arrive on wednesday (from two different retailers, but hopefully arriving at the same day). Been waiting for over a month for the i9 10900k to get in stock. In the end I had to buy it somewhere else because my usual retailer still didn't get it in.

All it needs now is a 3080! 😄

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Looking forward. It's been a long time coming. Unfortunately, I got the 2080TI not too long ago, so that's gonna last me at least a year. By that time, we shall see if I feel it's worth it to upgrade to a new flagship.

Yeah, I'm tempted to burn some money on a 3090 myself. Currently on a 2080Ti that is running fine for the most, however at 3440x1440 things tend to slow down on occasion. 😕

It would be nice if you could do some tests with your current system, and note the fps, and repeat the test with the new system without changing any settings. I also have an old i7-6700 with a 2080Ti, and I would be very interested seeing how much improvement you will get with the new CPU.

I am watching closely as well, as I might go down this exact upgrade path myself before the new year, and maybe throw in a decent value 3080 as well (3090 doesn't seem worth it looking at the price to performance ratio).

I'm waiting to see what AMD throws our way in regards to both CPU and GPU. No upgrade for me until at least Christmas.

Cant say I didnt warn you.......

MSFS Alpha tester on W10 Pro x64. Hardware: AMD 5900X 12 core CPU. Cooler Master ML360R AIO, Asus X570-E mobo, Asus Strix 3090 24GB gfx card, G.Skill TridentZ 64GB (4x16) DDR4-3600 RAM, Samsung 970 250GB SSD (OS), Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 pcie-4 NVMe SSD (MSFS install). EVGA 850w Gold cert PSU, CUK Continuum full ATX tower.  43" Sceptre 4K display. VR: HP Reverb G2.

A lightly overclocked 2080Ti will still be pretty good though backed up by the 10900k and the M.2 NVME drives.

For me, the ultimate aim will be to hold a solid 30 frames per second on a combination of high / ultimate settings, in complex areas, and with a complex aircraft.

(by solid 30 fps, I mean never drops below in all circumstances - lag and stutter are mainly down to other things and hopefully will be solved gradually)

I think, with a few optimisations thrown in by Asobo, a 2080Ti with the other new parts should be able to achieve this. 👍

I built from the ground up with the 2080ti (oh well) and the i9-10900k, MSI Z490, 32g ram and a pair of SSDs (one for OS, the other for content).  It installed and defaulted to Ultra and it works so well I haven't even measured framerates.

I haven't been through NYC, but did a VFR down to Miami then out to Grand Bahamas over the weekend, and I didn't notice any slowdown around Miami (I'm more of a GA VFR guy anyway, so flying around NYC isn't really in my priority list... Lukla and bush flights in general are more my thing).

Between the new box and hardware, an Obutto revolution and a Samsung 49" curved (running 5120x1440), I'm done spending on sim setups (thankfully still have some leftover for the real flights).

The setup is amazing though.  I'm glad I had the sim gear already (yoke, pedals, throttle quadrant, multi-panel, switch panel).  I have ForeFlight for real flying and figured out to wire it up to FS2020.

I'll be a lot happier once I can get my hands on a radio stack and maybe a GPS430 sim, but this setup has been a dream for 10+ years, and I'm quite happy to say that it all came together so well.

Happy simming...

Eventually going to upgrade my i7-6700k to the i9-10900k. Looks like the perfect processor for MSFS.

My advice is that you wait for a while, 2080Ti will serve you well until all options are on the table, personally i'm more interested in 3080Ti that i'm pretty sure will come sometime next year.

Congrats on your incoming hardware upgrade!

Just a note to all my fellow simmers who will jump on the 3000 series bandwagon and dump their 2080ti's.....I'm still struggling with the decision on whether to get a used 2080ti for a great price or a 3080...I'll wait to see how the market reacts, but please when you make that decision to sell your 2080ti, let us fellow simmers have a chance at it 1st. 😉

Not to despair, the 10900K and 2080Ti are a rockin' combo.  I really have no burning desire to upgrade from the 2080Ti.
