The avionics failure bug is the end of the line for me

Steps to reproduce:

1. Fly any airplane

2. Just wait

End of steps...

Pretty sure my video, this thread and the official forum thread of countless complaints of this same exact  is enough..

I paid $120 for a simulator to fly planes, not to be a freelance debugger..

If you don't want to be a freelance debugger, throw your PC away and buy some LEGO bricks for a hobby.  There has yet to be any software that that doesn't need patches.

This is the crazy thing with programs as complex as this..  it's way to easy to just get odd things happening on one system rather than all which makes tracing things really difficult..  it's also very difficult to determine if a change has relly affected something, or you think you see something different from what you were expecting and read that as a new problem or improvement 🙂

I will go and try fly today and see what my incidence of failure is (if any) and try a few more things, but it is also possible that something like this may be corrected without even a download, so who knows 🙂

Graham,

Please read my last reply.

All you guys with the problem, disconnect all your controllers, start a flight in the air AP ON HDG and ALT hold ON run and see.

Then you will know if the bug is with some controllers or some other thing. Don't have dev mode on also. GL

It might be an idea for you guys with the problem to list your controllers see they if there are any common denominators.

So far...nothing TM HOTAS Warthhog and TM TPR, both recognized out the box by MFS.

Also don't forget to check you rudders also for assignments. P3D added all sorts of strange thing to TPR, gear up!, so don't forget rudders just to make sure.

If you really want to test it, start a flight in the air put on AP and don't have any joystick/rudders connected, nothing. Turn off dev mode,Then see.

Sorry to hear your problems guys.

Yep it's a good point you raise and I am starting to wonder more and more about this fix they did for the honeycomb yoke and avionics switch 🙂

Mine is really simple setup..  all I have is a thrustmaster -x joystick which i setup pre patch.  There are no dual conflicts on assignments between either keyboard, mouse or joystick..  I meticulously went through everything when i did the setup origionally.

I will try your idea of nothing but keyboard and mouse setup and see if i get a failure later today though.. thanks for the idea 🙂

PS I never run with dev mode on 🙂

it's appreciated...  okay  just tried a flight..  started in the air..  height 3000, a/p on...  only controllers connected were keyboard and mouse..  heading north, speed set by throttle to around 110 knots  (Cessna 172 1000)  and left it running, not in dev mode, everything removed from the community folder for this test....  so absolute basic system...

10 minutes into flight touching absolutely nothing..  not changing windows or trying to read the forums or anything..   click from dashboard, everything went dead.   plane continued flying as it had been setup by the A/P previous to the failure...   reset Avionics switch to off then on.. restarted Garmin.. reconnected A/P  continued...  5 minutes later..  bop  same thing.

So..  don't think it's a controller issue 🙂

yeppers....    I do note that on the known issues published by Microsoft yesterday evening there are a couple of entries that could relate to this now...

Autopilot

  • We are looking into the bug reports and will provide additional information.

 Aircraft instruments:

  • Some changes made in patch 1.8.3.0
  • Additional reports are added to the backlog.

 Garmin avionics issues:

  • Some changes made in patch 1.8.3.0
  • Additional reports are added to the backlog.

so I HOPE that these will incorporate some of the reports we have been making about this 🙂

I think it is telling that the areas that some of us are having issues with were all touched in the 1.8.3.0 update so reflecting the fact that we were'nt having issues before the patch.. however to me that also says.. patch not tested 🙂

Well you're right but now we know its not a controller problem.

Very strange bug.

yep..  thank god the new Carenado Mooney is perfectly flyable with just the steam dials (although you loose ATC because the radio drops as well) but otherwise I would be having serious flying withdrawl issues 🙂

But as a glass half full person, I can still say.. the 1.8.3.0 patch, for me, improved the overall sim with regards to speeding up load, balancing CPU and GPU more and giving me a few more of those lovely FPS and a smoother ride 🙂

This is a BUG, not a corrupt installation issue. In time, more and more will come to see this for themselves.

I am just wondering how this can possibly be a bug if not everyone is experiencing this issue. I have to say that I have had none of these issues whatsoever. What can possibly be the common denominator if quite a few people are suffering the same problem.  I don't believe it can be a hardware issue. Have you tried turning failures on, running a flight and then turning failures off (sort of a reset) I have no idea if this will have any effect, but it may be worth a try.

My sympathies genuinely lie with you guys, but, appealing for help is probably a better solution than the "hyperbole". I know that this too, is not very helpful as far as a solution is concerned, and people telling the effected sufferers that they have no problems is just as frustrating as the original problem.

I just cannot work out why, some are experiencing this problem and some are not. I hope that someone can find that common denominator and come up with a solution.

I wish you all the best of luck

Hi Tony.. yes it's really odd 🙂  as to your first point re failures.. yep.. both in the main sim and on the actual aircraft.. made no change 🙂

As to the rest, on the official forums, this issue has had enough people vote on it as an issue to pretty much raise it to the top of the list and get it acknowledged in the known issues log, so I would say if you are not getting the bug, well done and keep enjoying the sim, for the rest of us, I guess it's just one of those things that will get patched so I'm not to worried at this stage, and for me, I can keep flying GA by using an aircraft that I can fly from the steam gauges and just pootling around looking at the scenery 🙂

I know I have raised the issue on zendesk with all the tests I have done on this and been acknowledged by them that they are looking at it, so I am hopeful 🙂

Well done you.  This is, at best, befuddling, and I am sure all of us would prefer to be fuddled LOL.  I am really sorry I cannot offer any further solutions, but, as I have said, I cannot see this as a bug simply because not all of us are suffering from it. I really hope the MS/Asobo combination can come up with a solution and pretty word not allowed fast.

Again, whilst I know that this is not helpful to you, please know that my heart is with you and your fellow sufferers.
