September 20, 20205 yr I must be a complete fool for purchasing a ton of airport scenery, GSX for P3D since 2020 was released, yet I can't understand why I am having such an unusually good experience with a dead, outdated platform that consistently does what it was intended to do. Gary Stewart

As for tubeflying - if you haven't flown the Leonardo Maddog, I would strongly recommend it. It's a joy to fly in v4/v5. Yes. Most all with DC3 Airways. Truly a great bunch of crusty old curmudeons, pilots and aviators in general. I've owned and flown several aircraft in real life in SE AK, PAJN.Florida has better weather. Have the Maddog under tarps. Someday. Have to master the 737NGX first. Retiring at the end of the year. Might get easier. Edited September 20, 20205 yr by Radial9

Finally got around to it in v4.5/v5, it's great and I actually fly it a lot more than the NGXu now even though I'm a massive 737 fan. So I suggest learning the MD-80 before the 737NGX if you're someone who doesn't just want to push buttons, Maddog is great for hand-flying. Good on you for supporting our devs. Yes, it feels strange when you're having a great time in Prepar3d v4/v5, and you come here and hear how dead your sim is. I half believe it sometimes, then I get back in the sim and know that I'm not going crazy, it really still is a great platform. Not much support for it around Avsim though, it's sad when I compare it with X-plane where you've got a community still fully supporting the sim even in the MSFS era. Would love this place to be a little bit more like the .org in terms of positive, useful discussion. September 20, 20205 yr I find I spend more time now on developers forums then AVSIM for the above stated reason. Seems like on the PMDG, Leonardo and A2A forum there now is a lot more mature discussion concerning simming and flying the planes then the silly "my sim is better and yours is dead diatribe". At times it reminds me of kids arguing about who's Dad can whip the other kids Dad. Edited September 20, 20205 yr by PATCO LCH Vic green

It allows people who want to want to have the "Sim X vs Sim Y" discussion to do so, without causing chaos in the general forums. Maybe we should do the same? Over the last 2-3 years new simmers came along and some where very directly towards others , who were more relaxed... Now that MSFS is out I guess that many of them have moved to either the MSFS forum at Avsim or the Official MSFS forum. And many of them were jetflyers who claimed that the ac systems and its complexity were more important than the scenery. Now they are flying GA aircraft at low altitude .... And some of them who where very offensive sometimes here at the P3D forum are now very defensive at the MSFS forum. I am still waiting for the improved EA so the weather and its lighting will be at least on par with MSFS and hopefully better... September 20, 20205 yr I'm on V5 at a very basic level until 5.1 comes out. I haven't even been to the MSFS forum. The thought of 'growing' with the new sim makes me feel ill.. V5, with the excellent FSW Lear35, some ORBX TE and airports, 2017 Megascenery and AIG OCI does everything I want it to do. I'm good.
September 20, 20205 yr Commercial Member It also seemed to me that the emergence of new add-ons on simmarekt slowed down. Only FSXCENERY releases airports every day))) Hope to see you soon 5.1 Edited September 20, 20205 yr by BMW969 In jurisprudence, there is a principle - you look for the person who benefits.
September 20, 20205 yr I've been flying the heck out of the NGXu in V5. Many months of testing that other sim and I am back to P3D (had actually uninstalled P3D a year ago). I was on approach to FlyTampa CYUL the other night and it was around sunset in the sim with a nice haze and beautiful shadows in the VC. My wife walks in and says "Wow, the new sim looks really cool!!". I said it's actually my old sim...and yes it does look pretty good!! I am also looking forward to 5.1 and especially improvements to EA. It looks like a lot of potential is there with TrueSky and would be really happy with a reworked atmosphere. I am perfectly good with my ORBX Global/OpenLC and all of my addon airports. I also recently installed AIG for traffic which is awesome along with FSReborn Pro. If only I could get the night lighting back to how it was in my 4.5 setup but need PTA for that...which may not happen.... September 20, 20205 yr The report of P3D's death was an exaggeration, to riff off Twain. P3D will continue to exist, and there will be development for it. It may slow down, but it will remain a viable platform for some time. After all, there are still people who use FSX as their primary sim, and there are still developers (certainly, not many, though) who are still developing for FSX. The MSFS forum raises a topic ever hour and like the pre-release the same thing over and over again mostly issues in the sim. We thought that V5 was rushed....as far as I read and watch YT video on Fight Game I think we are way ahead,,,,,few years ahead.... Alex
September 20, 20205 yr I think it's pretty clear that much, if not most, of the enthusiasm and interest lies with MSFS right now. That may die down a bit as its "newness" fades, but not by much as I do personally believe that MSFS is likely the future as far as flight simulation is concerned. It still needs a lot of work, however, and it will be several years before there is a rich selection of freeware and payware for it like what we have with P3D. Developers are eager to roll out products for the new sim as they stand to make a lot of money. Again, this may fade a bit over time, but MSFS is here to stay I believe, so it will always be a big competitor to P3D and Xplane. I plan to stick with P3D for at least another 6 months and likely longer, and even plan to upgrade to P3Dv5. However, I will always be a bit disappointed with the scenery in P3D as it is just not as good as what MSFS provides. Add to this the fact that developers like ORBX have all but abandoned the openLC and regional scenery for P3D, and it just makes P3D that much less attractive. Developers are going to go where they money is, so no matter what some of us may prefer, the products will be developed for the sim that provides the most sales.
