Does anyone know the gender of the Any Key?  Asking for a friend...

If it is an 'Any Key', it must be bi-sexual surely.  So a friend told me... 😳

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

In addition to being a minor inconvenience, the "Press Any Key" is a psychological reminder that this is also a console game. It gives the impression that it's a console-first game, though I don't personally think that's actually true.

The truth is is confuses people who dont understand english well..There was this guy in Luxemborg got stuck on the screen for 2 days,,,

Why is it at the top of the list? Because enough people have requested it.

I'm not sure why this is difficult for people to understand.

The problem is that because of the long time that it takes to load into the menu, people want to get up and do something else meanwhile. You cannot do that while this step exists, you have to stay and press a key to make sure that the simulator is fully loaded by the time you get back. It is not about the minor inconvenience of having to press a key.

Apparently in the older Alpha builds this step would appear once the simulator is loaded, and pressing a key would send you straight to the menu, which is the most logical thing to do and how most games do it. Whoever knows why this was changed...

That is a great explanation of the practical effect of this bug.  It does take a long time to load even on a top of the line system with ssd.  There is always something else I want to do during that time that I can't because I have to babysit it until I can press any key.

But I disagree that having it at the end of the load, before the main menu would make sense.  It's always a redundant and intellectually insulting step.  I already clicked a button or key to launch the game before this step.

Even if it were a mandated requirement on consoles there is no reason to do it on PC.   The games I play on ps4 load straight into the game or game menu without any unnecessary button presses.  Once a game is launched every controller input selects, changes, or launches something useful to me.   The console itself makes you press a button on a controller to login but that is a way of associating the controller with the console/user.   Once logged in (and usually it stays that way for weeks/months until system update) games can be launched without this kind of step.

LIke what?  I dont have an SSD and it takes about 15 seconds for me to get to the press any key screen ?

So whatever it is why dont you do it before or after ?

I read all this " things Id rather be doing or cant do " But never any specifics  . What is this 15 seconds delay causing you not to be able to do ?  Why cant you do it after the press anykey screen?

If it takes soooo long to load the game then 15 seconds shouldnd matter youll have plenty of time to do whatever its you need to do during that time>?

Not picking on you specifically I am just trying to understand what it is that are causing people to get aggro about the press any key...

PS If the delay is causing you to poop your pants and you just dont want to admit it I understand,. lol

15 seconds😲

Your 15 seconds is my 4 minutes and 7 seconds, and I do have an SSD!

Everyone gets a different performance, so the time taken to reach that screen can have a vastly different impact to their experience.

Yeah, I agree. I wasn't being completely serious when posting that, it was more of a joke to highlight the fact that it is not the key press bothering most people, and that the developers actually "wasted time" moving the screen to another location while the game was still in Alpha. I am fine either way, but completely removing it is probably the quickest option.

Assuming it takes everyone 15 seconds to reach that screen. It does not.

1 minute 23 seconds from clicking icon till "press any key".

I have a NVNE boot disk but the game lives on a QVO 1TB SSD (i58400, 32Gb ram, RTX 2060)

HOWEVER there may be more than disk access going on here, the GPU seems rather busy during start up as well, presumably unpacking compressed texture files.

Oh yes! I've got a decent spec rig, but not top notch by MSFS standards. Lots of files in my Community Folder, but even if I remove them all, it still takes... 1minute and 10 seconds.

True. At more or less idle, I have 1% CPU, 4% GPU, 14% RAM (all according to Xbox Game Bar), 25% & 821RPM GPU Fan.

MSFS boot, before any key, it's    44% CPU, 10% GPU, 19% RAM            and                                  79% & 2500RPM GPU Fan.

OK well if the time you say i takes you is typical of the people requesting the function be removed then I get it,,, It adds some context..Personally I dont really care one way or another.. And once this gets resolved  we can move on to more important things .

I do not know what it looks like on your PC, but after launching MSFS, I get NO visual feedback that anything is loading for the first minute or so..

I now use the MSFS Jumpstarter app, which gives me a pretty splashscreen and also pushes the ANY key for me..

You may feel this is not a big deal, but for me, this is a worthwhile improvement 🙂

I now see that MSFS is indeed loading, and I can go get a cup of coffee.  When I return, I am at the Welcome screen..
