That is a third way.. but is that possibly the same as the Global Zoom adjustment?

No... it's different and doesn't create the same problems.

It's possible that Carenado assigned that key combo to some other function in the C182.  Have you tried using a different combination?

I have... CTRL+F10.. CTD crash.

Yup... the in-flight menu sliders only manipulate the current view and reset as soon as a you switch to a different view (they're not persistent).

It's a shame it won't work with the C182... I wonder if its cameras.cfg is set to read-only?  Those files are normally in:

Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes\--desired aircraft--\

Using different zoom ratios in different aircraft wouldn't you get different outside views as well? Like a distant mountain seeming larger in one plane than another?

I would want to have the same (most realistic) view to the world outside in every plane.

Yes it would... so it's probably a good idea to use the same zoom ratio for all default views (just make sure to set it individually for each aircraft... don't change the global zoom!).  Setting higher zooms for instrument close-ups is okay; but I prefer just to move the camera closer.

On a different subject, hopefully Asobo will eventually let us move the external camera forward / backward too because I don't like having to zoom and change the field of view to get closer / further from the aircraft.  Right now, using the drone view is the only alternative.

If a Gorn can't see over the panel, he simply smashes it with a rock - No need for seat adjustments...

Rock....Pfffffftt.....you mean a piece of Styrofoam painted as a rock! 🙂   You Gorns...think you're so tuff.  Just because you destroyed an Earth outpost full of colonists...The Metrons...now that is a powerful race!  (You would know) 😉

I have edited the cameras.cfg file for the C182... changed 2.20 to 2.40 and that does the job (for now).  I was able to change the file, so would not think it is Read Only..

Good luck. Let us know if you figure it out.

Thanks all we got it now--much appreciated!  It's too bad there isn't finer control over the changes but it's serviceable at least.  It looks like there is no per plane control over height?  I see it is in Globals and I had it set at 65 for the TBM, but that may not work for the other planes.

Decrease cockpit view height - Keyboard Down Arrow

Increase cockpit view height - Keyboard Up Arrow

The default keys use the cursor arrows (not the keypad arrows).

You can adjust for fine tuning by going into the general options menu and under Camera, adjust the "Freelook Speed" slider to minimum (which I think is 10).

This will slow down the speed with which your camera moves and allow you to make fine adjustments.

Once finished, reset the slider to the original setting that you normally use in-game.

Will it persist after the next update?

Yes it is the case with me. If I set a custom view it works for awhile and then it doesn't anymore, even though I have not changed it. Like you said, sooner or later it angles higher than to what I set it. Custom views do NOT work (i.e. stay put) like MSFS says they do, the system is broken.
