November 15, 20205 yr Is there a way of changing the "eyepoint" for an airplane? In P3D, you can adjust that in the aircraft.cfg file. I would like to be able to move the eyepoint to the left and up a bit for the Carenado C182 and have it stay there. I can use the arrow keys to move, but do not know how to make it persistent. Bert
November 15, 20205 yr Quote The cockpit view has four (4) default camera positions from the Pilot’s perspective: The VFR position defaults to the pilot seat and offers a good view of both the main instruments and the exterior. It can be activated using the “Toggle VFR Cockpit mode” command (F10 by default) The IFR position defaults to the pilot seat and is more focused on the plane’s instruments It can be activated using the “Toggle IFR Cockpit mode” command (F9 by default) The Landing position defaults to the pilot seat and offers a good view of the runway. It can be activated using the “Toggle Landing Cockpit mode” command (F11 by default) The Copilot position defaults to the copilot seat, in a VFR style position It can be activated using the “Toggle Copilot view” (unmapped by default) Additional notes: Using the “Reset camera” shortcut (F by default) will always replace the camera to the last used Pilot’s view You can cycle through the VFR, IFR & Landing Pilots view using the “Next Pilot position” & “Previous Pilot Position” commands Quote The cockpit view has ten (10) Custom views slots At any time, you can save the current camera position to a Custom view slot, using “Save custom camera [0, 1, 2…]” (by default, left ctrl + left alt + [1, 2, 3…]) You can then reload this custom view using “Load custom camera [0, 1, 2…]” (by default, left alt + [1, 2, 3…]) https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016003159-Camera-Overview
November 15, 20205 yr Author Thanks! The three "default" positions are all too far to the right... not where the pilot actually sits. Is there any way of moving (redefining) these positions? I'll try the Custom route and see if it solves my problem! 😉 Bert
November 15, 20205 yr Hi Bert, Seems the days of editing cfg files for "eyepoint" are long gone (some one please correct me if I'm wrong). In addition to some custom views that I have created as mentioned above, I have settled on a hybrid approach to cockpit views. First, I am a longtime Track IR user but I still need some tweaking even with that. I have bound increase/decrease cockpit view height, translate cockpit view forward/backward as well as translate left/right to a 4 way hat switch. These are found in the "Cockpit Camera" settings. But secondly I also use the camera controls found in the GENERAL options area. Here, there are additional camera (viewpoint) settings available that are PERSISTENT and that maybe you're not aware of. Go to OPTIONS -> SETTINGS -> CAMERA and you will find Cockpit Camera HEIGHT, HORIZONTAL POSITION AND ZOOM sliders that can be adjusted to your liking. They must be set to your liking in each aircraft although you may find that one setting works for all or many. I have found that I leave L/R centered, and only need to adjust height from 50-75 and zoom from 30-60 for the different planes I fly. There are quite a few a/c that share the same settings at least for me... Hope this helps and even if you knew it anyway, maybe it will help some one else. November 15, 20205 yr Author Appreciate the help! Had forgotten that the Cockpit Settings are actually for each aircraft! 😉 For now, I am experimenting with a Custom View 1, which I can access via a Yoke button. Interestingly, this button toggles between two views when I push it multiple times.. In the Controls section, it is defined as Load Custom Camera 1.. Much better than what I had! Thanks to both of you 🙂 Edited November 15, 20205 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
November 15, 20205 yr I don't think the Cockpit settings are for each aircraft... but I hope that I'm wrong because that would be ideal. Saving custom views is problematic for me because the camera angles I save are not exactly the same as what get reloaded... i.e. loading Custom View 2 results in a view that is angled higher than what I originally saved to Custom View 2. Is this the case for others? As Bert mentioned, using Load Custom View 1 alternates between the saved view and some other view angle. This can be extremely annoying when you expect to get a view looking forward and instead you're looking at the roof, your lap, or somewhere randomly in between. I think the camera system will eventually be very good; but right now it has some major quirks that really need to get sorted out. Edited November 15, 20205 yr by MadDog
November 15, 20205 yr Bert, If you look in settings under Camera/Cockpit Camera, you will find a command "VFR Pilot View Save" that you can bind to a key or button on your controller. I believe that this was added a few updates ago. This will set the viewpoint of your default view once you have found a position/zoom that you like. This works independently for each aircraft. November 15, 20205 yr Hello, you can set your fixed cameras positions where you want very precisely. See my post here Download my zip file , edit the cameras.cfg file You will find french comments explaining where changes are. It will be a good starting point for you to understand what you have to do. You simply have to - know what camera number you want to move - chage x, y, z values; small changes should be enough - enjoy your new persistent camera views !
November 15, 20205 yr @Bert Pieke Bert- On day one I took a page out of EZDOK's play book and created the following custom cockpit cameras for EVERY aircraft I fly... KEYPRESS MENUS PFC Console KEYSTROKE FSUIPC PTT Left Index PILOT Right Index Alt+Ctl+1 PANEL Top Right Alt+Ctl+2 LEFT Engine Start L Alt+Ctl+3 RIGHT Engine Start R Alt+Ctl+4 DOWN Cowl Flaps Dn Alt+Ctl+5 LIGHTS Cowl Flaps Up Alt+Ctl+6 OVERHEAD Rotary Left Alt+Ctl+7 Sht+` UPPER OVERHEAD Rotary Left X2 Alt+Ctl+8 Ctl+` GPS/FMC Batt. Monitor Alt+Ctl+9 ` Using the keys that Glen quoted I set each view up exactly as I like with the exact sequence. That way, EVERY aircraft looks in the same direction with the same keypress/rotation. @Nickbe and Marniftarr laid a very solid groundwork for VIEWS 🙂 The FSUIPC key controls are needed because MSFS key programming is still not comprehensive. I was referring to the default Cockpit Camera settings specified in the Camera page of the General Options menu. This default viewpoint appears to be global (although I wish it wasn't).

The default camera view for each aircraft can be easily saved without using the global settings. November 15, 20205 yr Why not just use "set custom camera view" ( or something like that forgot the exact name) and assign it to a number. It will even come back to the last view (your new default view) when you pan with the hat switch. I just set it to "ctrl"+the number i want to assign it to and it save the views based on the aircraft. Seems to be the easier way.
