Any study level GA in the works?

Featured Replies

I've been completely out of the loop for the last 6 months, so I apologize if this was asked for a million times. I'm coming from the P3D world and I'm waiting for some study level GA airplanes to appear in MSFS so I can fully make a switch. I'm coming back now and I'm wondering if there are any study level GA (or airliners and anything in between for that matter) in the works and will be released soon or at least in the near future? I was able to find some news about Aerosoft CRJ, which is great. Any other, I'm specially interested in A2A planes and others in that range. Are we going to see anything soon(ish) or are we still a long way away from stuff like that?

Not sure about study level, but I found the default 152 with community mod quite realistic. If you want a 'study level' trainer, it's quite good I think.
Carenado's Piper Seminole is also quite good but not study level. I guess we will have to wait for A2A's first aircraft for something closer to study level.

As far as I know:

* FlyByWire A320 mod, not yet fully system modeled but I expect it to get there in few months.

* Working Title CJ4 mod: this mod is becoming more and more mature and close to IRL operations.

* Aerosoft CRJ: I think the release is soon after the UK update.

* QW787: expected to release in Q2 2021

* Aerosoft A320: in work, no indication when would come but I would expect early next year or later this year.

* Whiskey Jet A220: well they are actively showing progress in Facebook but no indication.

* Majestic Q400: well I know that they are now working with Asobo (Matijas in AS mentioned that one time), so I would expect them to announce the development for MSFS sometimes this year.

* PMDG 737NG: well it was expected to be one of the early ones to arrive but anyway it is delayed for one year and it is expected late this year although I am sure it will be delayed again to next year but let's see

The team at A2A Simulations are excited to be building the Aerostar 600 twin for both MSFS and P3D v4/v5 using the latest generation of Accu-Sim.

@omarsmak30 A nice overview but none of those are GA.

A2A's Aerostar 600 is a far away I think, A2A announced recently it will be delayed too as the reference aircraft suffered a "mishap".

Justflight's PA-28R Arrow III is being ported to MFS and won't be A2A level but will still be detailed and will almost certainly arrive much sooner, you can see progress at https://www.justflight.com/in-development/pa-28r-arrow-iii-microsoft-flight-simulato

For a long time now I've flown TheFrett's msfs_g36_project in conjunction with the Working Title G1000 improvements, together they really add polish to the default Bonanza and make it an enjoyable GA companion.

Maybe I need to except that "mod" thing... I usually just bought quality payware aircraft developed by professionals who usually have real pilots on the team that helped them with realism. Or maybe I should just wait a bit more so the usual suspects start making stuff that's on par with P3D products.

Well the mods are free, and the graphical quality of the default aircraft is superb, so what have you got to lose by trying them out? Installation is a two minute job and easily reversed, just extract the two mods into your community folder.

Well... time 🙂 That's why I just prefer to pay somebody else to do it right the first time.

Don't be discouraged by that mod thing! Download the FBW A320 installer and try it. You may be pleasantly surprised by the detail and depth they have achieved as a group.

That's true but you are going to be waiting a loooong time, I think JustFlight's PA-28 is the only "study" GA that's likely to release within 6 months. Give the Bonanza mods I listed a try (I'm not so keen on Rob Young's turbo normalised one although many others seems to like it), just looking at the feature list should help you decide if it's worthwhile for you, but it simulates cold starts, flooded engine, air conditioning engine and electrical loading, bus ties, cowl flaps drag etc.

There are other mods I do not have much experience of but you may prefer the base aircraft; there's ones for the C152, DA-40 NG and DA-62 which have positive feedback on the official MFS forums, although not necessarily as in-depth as TheFretts work.

Yes....

It also depends on what you consider "study level". IMO, if an aircraft behaves close to the real thing it's study level, regardless of how many knobs and switches there are in the aircraft. Too bad MSFS missed the opportunity to do a real 'walk around', or simulate damage and wear because of abuse. Missing items on the checklist should have (optionally) consequences.
